Job Description:

The University Writing Programs Writing Studio is seeking a part-time student assistant. This position will provide front desk support to both the University Writing Program and the Writing Studio. The receptionist is assigned to the front desk performing daily office operational duties such as directing student inquiries and serving as the receptionist for the Writing Studio & UWP Office 1120. These tasks include scheduling student appointments troubleshooting problems within the Penji system and assisting in coordinating tutors. Ideal applicants will be familiar with the computer applications Penji MS Excel Google Docs PowerPoint Canva Outlook and Word and will have experience in assisting with special events and conferences.

  • Acts as assistant to Writing Studio Coordinator. Provides support for the Writing Studio scheduling and cancelling appointments using tutor system Penji and explaining to students how to use the system. Coordinates appointments to ensure tutors meet with scheduled students. Prints Writing Studio material as needed. Coordinates and troubleshoots with Writing Studio Coordinator.
  • Acts as UWP/Writing Studio receptionistdirects student inquiries receives deliveries and assignments dropped off for teaching assistants. Makes copies scans and sends faxes along with maintaining paper supply and toner for the copier. Straightens and maintains common areas through-out the day. Assists visitors to the Writing Studio/UWP 1120 Office. File documents according to UWP filing system. Checks and maintains inventory of UWP supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned by Writing Studio Coordinator.
Expected Salary:

The hourly rate is $15 per hour

Work Schedule

For Federal Work Study-eligible students 20 hours a week is preferred. This position is expected to work approximately 20 hours per week ideally Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We understand that students have varying class schedules and are open to working with the selected candidate to establish a consistent schedule that accommodates their academic commitments.

Preferred Qualifications:

A high school diploma and two years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Expertise with MS Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint as well as Penji.

This position is open to all Federal Work Study students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
