Job Summary
MalaceHR is seeking a Facilities Services Technician / Specialist to support the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a commercial facility. This position is ideal for someone with foundational facilities experience who can work independently adapt to changing priorities and communicate effectively with employees management contractors vendors and other stakeholders.
Experience working in a laboratory pharmaceutical biotechnology or similar technical environment is preferred but not required. HVAC experience is a plus though candidates with limited HVAC experience will still be considered.
No specific certifications are required for this position.
- Perform daily building inspections and equipment rounds to identify maintenance or safety issues.
- Assist with routine preventive maintenance on HVAC plumbing electrical and mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs involving building systems and equipment.
- Respond promptly to facility service requests and urgent maintenance issues.
- Complete assigned work orders and accurately document work in the facilitys CMMS.
- Maintain building appearance through minor repairs painting general upkeep and other basic maintenance.
- Assist outside contractors and vendors with specialized repairs and maintenance activities.
- Monitor building conditions and report equipment or facility issues to site leadership.
- Support building automation systems and environmental monitoring systems as needed.
- Work safely around chemicals laboratory gases and other controlled materials while following proper PPE and safety procedures.
- Follow all site safety procedures policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections of building interiors and address or report safety concerns.
- Perform monthly testing of eyewash stations and emergency safety showers.
- Conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections and maintain required documentation.
- Participate in safety inspections and emergency preparedness activities.
- Support evacuation and emergency response procedures.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
- Complete required site and safety training.
- Assist with building access control and facility security procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections and report security concerns hazards or incidents.
- Escort contractors and vendors throughout the facility as required.
- Support responses to building alarms and coordinate with appropriate personnel or emergency services when necessary.
- Provide responsive and professional customer service to employees visitors management and building occupants.
- Respond to facility requests in a timely and courteous manner.
- Assist with general office maintenance including hanging pictures assembling furniture installing accessories and performing minor repairs.
- Move furniture equipment materials and supplies as needed.
- Support meeting and event setup and breakdown.
- Communicate effectively with employees contractors vendors management and other facility stakeholders.
- Participate in team meetings training and other facility-related activities.
- Read and interpret floorplans equipment manuals technical documents and maintenance procedures.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain accurate maintenance records inspection logs and service documentation.
- Assist with monitoring and adjusting building systems to reduce downtime and operational disruptions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of facilities maintenance building maintenance or related experience preferred.
- Basic understanding of commercial building systems.
- General knowledge of plumbing electrical mechanical and basic HVAC systems.
- HVAC experience is helpful but not required.
- Previous laboratory pharmaceutical biotechnology or technical facility experience is preferred.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read basic technical documentation and equipment manuals.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may frequently change.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at the same time.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with employees management contractors vendors and clients.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to safely perform physical work including bending lifting climbing and handling tools and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds as needed.
- Laboratory or research facility experience.
- Pharmaceutical or biotechnology facility experience.
- Experience working around laboratories clean rooms or controlled environments.
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms.
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring systems.
- Basic understanding of laboratory chemical and gas safety.
- Experience working in a GxP environment or familiarity with Good Documentation Practices.
