Job Description:
As a Calibration / Metrology & Facilities Technician at AstraZeneca you will be responsible for ensuring that all facility instrumentation measurement and control systems meet precise calibration and compliance standards. You will champion standardized Lean-based methods while supporting production quality and compliance activities across the site. This is a vital position to the safe reliable and compliant operation of pharmaceutical manufacturing. This is a full-time onsite position.

Typical Accountabilities:
The Calibration Technician Performs calibrations following approved requirements.
Ensures that measurement systems meet accuracy and precision requirements and maintains calibration methodologies systems and practices.
Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.
Redesigns or adjusts measurement capability to minimize errors.
Performed other related tasks as assigned by Lead or Manager

Specific Responsibilities of Role Holder

Perform calibrations of process instrumentation (such as loops controllers recorders transmitters balances and related devices) following approved procedures.
Ensure measurement systems meet required accuracy precision and compliance with all applicable GMP/cGMP or regulatory standards.
Maintain calibration methodologies documentation and schedule; plan and execute monthly calibration activities in conjunction with area owners.
Conduct troubleshooting repair and operational support for facility and production instrumentation or equipment addressing both electrical/electronic and pneumatic systems.
Identify install test and validate new or replacement instrumentation.
Redesign or adjust processes to minimize errors and improve measurement reliability; analyze calibration trends for continuous improvement.
Lead support and document root cause investigations (including writing or assisting with deviation reports CAPAs and change controls).
Supervise or coordinate with outside contractors on related calibration projects or activities.
Write follow and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for calibration maintenance and use of instrumentation.
Support life cycle management for all test instruments including calibration performance assessments and upgrades.
Perform preventative maintenance on a range of process equipment (e.g. heat sealers mixers conductivity meters) as needed.
Uphold all safety health and environmental policies and procedures.
Must be flexible to work or be on call during off-shifts and weekends as required by site operations.
Mentor and collaborate with colleagues and cross-functional peers; uphold AstraZenecas values of honesty integrity self-motivation and teamwork.

Qualifications:
Essential-
Associates degree with a minimum of 3 years professional experience in metrology or 4 years direct metrology/calibration experience in lieu of degree.
Thorough familiarity with the analysis maintenance and repair of electrical/electronic control systems; working knowledge of pneumatic systems.
Understanding of basic control system design and fundamental programming.
Demonstrated experience troubleshooting installing and repairing facility instrumentation and electronic systems.
Experience with calibration in a regulated industry (pharmaceutical nuclear aviation or similar).
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong organization and documentation abilities; able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Ability to wear appropriate PPE and strictly adhere to safety and GMP compliance protocols.

Desirable-
Associate degree in Electronics or Metrology.
Calibration Technician Certification (such as from the Instrument Society of America (ISA) or equivalent).
Professional certification or completion of a company-sponsored apprenticeship/qualification program in instrumentation/metrology.
Demonstrated experience leading calibration projects or continuous improvement initiatives.

Internal Title: Metrologist/Facilities Technician

The team is seeking an experienced Calibration/Metrology Technician who can help bring an outsourced calibration program in-house. The selected candidate will spend the first 3 6 months helping establish processes documentation and calibration practices while working independently with minimal supervision.

• Manage and prioritize instrument calibration activities.
• Coordinate calibration schedules with production and other departments to avoid operational disruptions.
• Perform calibration and troubleshooting on:
  • Pressure gauges and transmitters
  • Temperature gauges and transmitters
  • Flow meters
  • pH and conductivity instruments
  • Instrumentation utilizing 4 20 mA signals and HART communicators
• Support preventative maintenance activities and work closely with maintenance teams.
• Write and maintain SOPs and calibration procedures.

• Strong metrology/calibration background with exposure to multiple disciplines-not just one specialty area.
• Experience working for:
  • Third-party calibration companies
  • Calibration/metrology laboratories
  • Military metrology programs
• Comfortable working independently and building processes from the ground up.
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate work across departments.

1. Calibration / Metrology experience across multiple disciplines (pressure temperature flow RF voltage etc.).
