Fabrication Technician 1
Job Summary
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Fabrication and Assembly
- Assist with the fabrication and assembly of HDPE pipe fittings flanges manifolds spools and other fabricated assemblies under the direction of qualified personnel.
- Measure mark cut clean scrape stage align and prepare pipe fittings tools equipment and work areas for fabrication activities.
- Accurately use tape measures levels squares calipers and other approved measuring devices required for assigned work.
- Read and follow approved fabrication drawings work orders bills of material dimensions written instructions procedures and job-specific requirements.
- Verify material type size dimension quantity part number job number and other required information before beginning assigned work.
- Maintain material identification and traceability throughout the fabrication process in accordance with company customer and project requirements.
- Assist with the setup pre-use inspection operation and breakdown of fusion equipment after completing required training and receiving authorization.
- Perform assigned fusion and fabrication activities only within the employees demonstrated qualifications and required level of supervision.
- Assist with small- medium- and large-diameter fusion activities when trained qualified authorized and assigned.
- Assist with positioning alignment clamping facing heating joining cooling and removal of pipe and fittings during authorized fusion activities.
- Assist with fitting assembly flange preparation manifold assembly spool fabrication and related fabrication processes.
- Use approved hand tools power tools cutting equipment measuring devices and fabrication equipment safely and only within assigned training and authorization.
Inspection and Quality Control
- Inspect incoming materials for visible damage contamination incorrect size missing components incorrect quantities or other discrepancies.
- Inspect work in progress and completed assemblies for visible defects dimensional accuracy alignment completeness identification and general workmanship.
- Compare completed work to approved drawings measurements tolerances bills of material and job requirements.
- Immediately stop work and notify the assigned supervisor or qualified lead employee when drawings conflict dimensions do not match materials appear incorrect or a quality or safety concern is identified.
- Identify and appropriately segregate or label nonconforming damaged defective or questionable materials and completed work as directed.
- Do not modify approved drawings dimensions materials fabrication procedures or job requirements without authorization.
- Assist with inspections testing joint evaluations photographs and other assigned quality-assurance activities.
Documentation and Inventory
- Complete fabrication records material-tracking documents production records inspection forms equipment checklists photographs delivery documents and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Record material usage quantities measurements job numbers equipment information and other required production data.
- Verify that materials equipment and fabricated assemblies are supported by the appropriate work order sales order transfer document delivery document or other authorized transaction before release.
- Assist with fabrication inventory material counts cycle counts physical inventory material organization and reporting of discrepancies.
- Promptly report damaged missing improperly documented or potentially misappropriated company or customer property.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding customer information drawings project information pricing proprietary procedures technical information and other sensitive business matters.
Material Handling and Equipment
- Load unload move position and stage pipe fittings equipment tools and completed assemblies using approved material-handling methods.
- Operate forklifts pallet jacks hoists lifting devices or other material-handling equipment only after completing required training and receiving company authorization.
- Perform required pre-use inspections before operating assigned equipment.
- Inspect lifting equipment slings straps rigging and material-handling devices before use when trained and assigned.
- Remain alert to suspended loads pinch points crush hazards line-of-fire hazards heated surfaces cutting tools rotating equipment and moving vehicles or machinery.
- Request team assistance or appropriate mechanical equipment when materials are too heavy bulky unstable or otherwise unsafe for individual handling.
- Properly use inspect clean maintain and store hand tools power tools measuring instruments fusion equipment lifting devices and other company equipment.
- Package protect identify label stage and prepare completed assemblies for storage transfer delivery customer pickup or shipment.
Driving Deliveries and Customer Support
- Safely operate assigned company vehicles to deliver or retrieve parts materials tools equipment fabricated assemblies and other company property.
- Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report vehicle load or safety concerns.
- Verify delivery documentation destination contact information quantities materials and special instructions before leaving the branch.
- Properly secure loads tools parts materials and fabricated assemblies before transportation.
- Obtain required delivery signatures photographs receipts or other proof of delivery and return completed documentation promptly.
- Provide prompt professional courteous and customer-focused service during deliveries pickups customer-site visits and other assigned activities.
- Communicate delays incorrect materials site-access issues delivery discrepancies damaged items or other customer concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Follow customer-specific site-access PPE safety parking traffic-control security badging and operational requirements.
- Do not enter restricted hazardous or unauthorized customer-site areas without appropriate training authorization and direction.
- Do not provide unauthorized technical advice alter customer orders commit Milford to additional work or make promises regarding pricing warranties delivery dates or project requirements.
- Represent Milford professionally through appropriate appearance conduct communication and care of company vehicles and property.
Shop Yard and Safety Responsibilities
- Maintain clean safe organized secure and professional fabrication shops warehouses storage areas workstations vehicles equipment areas and yards.
- Keep walkways emergency-access areas loading areas work surfaces material-storage areas and equipment locations clear of unnecessary materials and hazards.
- Follow approved housekeeping tool-control scrap-management recycling material-storage and waste-disposal practices.
- Support Technical Services Specialists supervisors warehouse personnel and other employees with shop yard delivery equipment rental inventory and fabrication-related activities as assigned.
- Participate in required safety meetings technical training driver training equipment training qualification activities and employee-development programs.
- Follow all applicable Milford Winsupply manufacturer customer-specific environmental driving safety quality and PPE requirements.
- Follow lockout/tagout and other applicable energy-control procedures when trained authorized and required.
- Promptly report injuries vehicle incidents property damage near misses spills defective tools unsafe equipment customer complaints and hazardous conditions.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality to support fabrication schedules deliveries customer requirements training inventory activities and departmental operations.
- Comply with applicable Milford and Winsupply policies governing company property vehicles technology electronic communications confidential information records cybersecurity and acceptable use.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Services Supervisor or Technical Services Director.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Previous HDPE fusion or fabrication experience is not required.
- Mechanical aptitude and a demonstrated willingness to learn thermoplastic piping systems fusion procedures fabrication practices measuring techniques quality requirements equipment operation and delivery procedures.
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure including whole numbers fractions and standard units of measurement or successfully develop this ability during introductory training.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations count materials verify quantities calculate measurements and compare dimensions.
- Ability to read and follow work orders fabrication drawings bills of material labels part numbers delivery documents written instructions procedures and safety information.
- Ability to safely use basic hand tools power tools measuring instruments and shop equipment appropriate to assigned duties.
- Ability to identify and report visible defects dimensional discrepancies incorrect materials missing components and quality concerns.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing fabrication work deliveries and documentation accurately.
- Dependability accountability a strong work ethic and willingness to complete assigned duties.
- Ability to follow direction accept coaching and correction ask questions when instructions are unclear and adapt to changing operational needs.

- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are preferred.

- Ability to satisfy applicable customer-specific screening drug-testing safety-training site-access badging and qualification requirements.
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license acceptable motor vehicle record and insurability under Milford requirements.
- Ability to safely drive for extended periods and navigate to Milford locations vendors customer facilities project sites and other assigned destinations.
- Ability to safely secure and transport parts materials equipment tools and fabricated assemblies.
- Reliable attendance punctuality and availability are essential functions of this position.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in manufacturing construction warehouse operations plumbing mechanical work automotive repair farming oilfield operations equipment operation delivery driving material handling or another hands-on field is preferred but not required.
- Complete all required Milford Winsupply customer manufacturer safety driving equipment and policy training within the designated timeframe.
- Successfully complete introductory HDPE fusion and fabrication training within the timeframe established by Milford.
- Successfully complete assigned small-diameter fusion-equipment training and qualification within six months of employment or another timeframe established by Milford based on training availability work assignments demonstrated competency and business needs.
- Successfully complete assigned medium-diameter fusion-equipment training and qualification within twelve months of employment or another timeframe established by Milford based on training availability work assignments demonstrated competency and business needs.
- Complete large-diameter fusion-equipment training and qualification when assigned based on job responsibilities performance demonstrated technical proficiency and business needs.
- Complete required defensive-driving vehicle-inspection load-securement accident-reporting and company vehicle-use training.
- Ability to provide or obtain H2S PEC or other customer-specific certifications through Milford when required by assigned customer-site work.
- Ability to obtain and maintain forklift material-handling hoist rigging overhead-lifting-equipment or other equipment-specific qualifications when required.
- Successful completion and maintenance of all required training qualifications certifications driving requirements equipment authorizations and customer-site credentials is a condition of continued employment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in fabrication shops warehouses enclosed work areas material-storage areas loading areas equipment yards vehicles customer facilities project sites oilfield locations pipe yards construction areas and outdoor environments.
- Regular driving may be required between Milford locations approved vendors customer locations and assigned project sites.
- Work may involve exposure to heat cold rain wind sunlight humidity nighttime conditions and other varying weather conditions.
- Work may involve elevated noise vibration dust dirt plastic shavings grease oils lubricants hydraulic fluid fuel exhaust fumes paint fumes coatings solvents adhesives cleaners battery materials heated equipment and other substances commonly present in fabrication warehouse oilfield construction and industrial environments.
- Employees may work near moving forklifts vehicles trailers fusion equipment hydraulic systems electrical equipment generators heaters facers cutting tools rotating components pressurized systems hot surfaces sharp edges suspended loads and other operational hazards.
- Work may involve pinch points crush hazards line-of-fire exposures lifting operations traffic hazards delivery activity and movement of long bulky or irregularly shaped materials.
- Exposure to H2S fumes gases chemicals or other potentially hazardous conditions may occur depending on the customer location project site equipment condition or assigned activity.
- Work may involve bright lighting dim lighting nighttime driving uneven surfaces slippery or muddy terrain gravel rough roads elevated work areas excavations and work beneath or around equipment.
- Employees may enter customer offices warehouses yards fabrication areas project sites construction zones and oilfield locations when properly trained and authorized.
- Frequent interaction with customers employees contractors vendors drivers supervisors and members of the public may occur.
- Compliance with applicable Milford Winsupply customer-specific manufacturer environmental driving equipment lockout/tagout site-access and PPE requirements is mandatory.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods including work shifts of up to ten hours when required.
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while traveling to Milford locations vendors customer facilities and project sites.
- Ability to frequently bend stoop crouch kneel squat twist reach push pull and work in varying physical positions.
- Ability to walk safely on concrete gravel uneven slippery muddy rocky or otherwise challenging surfaces.
- Ability to climb onto and off trucks vehicles trailers equipment platforms stairs ramps ladders and approved elevated work surfaces.
- Ability to safely enter and exit company vehicles multiple times throughout the workday.
- Ability to reach overhead at shoulder level below shoulder level and below waist level.
- Ability to lift and carry pipe fittings tools equipment parts materials and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to push pull position or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds when the item can be safely handled within the employees individual capabilities.
- Items exceeding 50 pounds or items that are bulky unstable awkwardly shaped or otherwise unsafe for individual handling must be moved using team assistance or approved mechanical equipment.
- Ability to grip grasp turn rotate and manipulate tools controls pipe fittings fasteners measuring equipment delivery documents and small components.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand wrist arm and shoulder movements associated with measuring marking cutting cleaning scraping assembling operating tools driving loading unloading and documentation.
- Ability to maintain visual attention depth perception peripheral awareness and hand-eye coordination while driving measuring preparing aligning assembling moving and inspecting materials.
- Ability to safely load unload carry position and deliver parts tools materials equipment and fabricated assemblies.
- Ability to safely operate approved hand tools power tools material-handling equipment fusion equipment and company vehicles after completing required training and receiving authorization.
- Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods including safety glasses gloves protective footwear hearing protection face shields high-visibility clothing respiratory protection and other PPE appropriate to assigned work.
- Ability to perform routine computer keyboard mobile-device electronic-navigation data-entry and documentation tasks.
WORK SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY
The position is generally scheduled Monday through Friday during normal operating hours; however fabrication schedules deliveries customer requirements training activities inventory needs staffing and business demands require flexibility.
Employees must be willing and able to work overtime extended hours early mornings evenings weekends and occasional holidays when required to support fabrication deadlines customer deliveries material pickups project needs inventory activities departmental operations and other business requirements.
Mandatory weekend work may be required periodically including during year-end physical inventory major fabrication projects customer deadlines shutdowns or other operational needs.
Travel and customer-site assignments may require early departures extended driving overnight stays or changes to the normal work schedule.
On-call or short-notice assignments may occasionally be required based on customer delivery project or operational needs.
Work schedules may change based on production demands customer requirements deliveries weather staffing training seasonal workloads and business needs. Milford will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice whenever practical.
As a non-exempt employee all hours worked must be accurately recorded including required travel time customer-site work training after-hours communication and other compensable work. Overtime must be authorized in accordance with applicable Milford and Winsupply policies and will be compensated in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour requirements.
