- Job Description/Duties
- The Fab Lab Student Assistant supports the daily operation of the Warrior Fab Lab by providing technical assistance to students faculty staff and community members especially using digital fabrication tools and equipment. Student Assistants help maintain a safe organized and welcoming makerspace while supporting fabrication projects equipment maintenance workshops and instructional resources. Successful candidates are dependable technically curious customer-focused and eager to learn and teach new skills.
Duties include but are not limited to:- Provide technical assistance to Fab Lab users in the safe and effective use of tools equipment and digital fabrication technologies including 3D printers CNC machines laser cutters vinyl cutters and other makerspace equipment.
- Review prepare troubleshoot and inspect digital design files for fabrication using CAD vector graphics and slicing software before running the equipment.
- Monitor the safe and proper use of Fab Lab equipment tools and materials while enforcing established safety procedures and maintaining a clean organized and professional workspace.
- Respond to emails and provide timely courteous customer service to students faculty staff and visitors.
- Monitor inventory levels document material usage and notify staff of supply or equipment needs.
- Maintain accurate records and follow Fab Lab policies procedures and operational guidelines.
- Conduct tours of the Fab Lab for prospective students K-12 visitors classes and community partners.
- Document Fab Lab projects events and activities through photography and/or video for instructional and promotional purposes.
- Participate in technical training and continuously develop knowledge of Fab Lab equipment software and fabrication processes.
- Train and mentor fellow student assistants and Fab Lab users on equipment operation and best practices as assigned.
- Assist with planning and facilitating workshops outreach events demonstrations and special programs.
- Design promotional materials signage swag and marketing content for Fab Lab events and initiatives.
- Research develop and update instructional guides operating procedures tutorials and other technical documentation.
- Perform routine equipment inspections preventative maintenance basic troubleshooting and diagnostic repairs under the supervision of Fab Lab staff.
- Attend required staff meetings training sessions and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Fab Lab operations.

- Qualifications
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using digital fabrication equipment such as 3D printers laser cutters vinyl cutters or similar technologies.
- Proficiency with one or more design or fabrication software applications including but not limited to Adobe Illustrator Adobe Photoshop Autodesk Blender Prusa Slicer or comparable slicing software.
- Experience creating troubleshooting or preparing digital files.
- Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to users with varying levels of experience.
- Demonstrated organizational skills attention to detail and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience developing instructional materials tutorials or technical documentation.
- Experience using Canvas.
- Experience with photography videography graphic design or social media content creation.
- Experience leading workshops mentoring peers or providing technical instruction.
- Minimum of one year of customer service peer mentoring volunteer makerspace or other public-facing experience.
Required Qualifications:- Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student in a minimum of six (6) units during the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service in a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work responsibly with minimal supervision.
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment consistent with the essential functions of the position.
- Undergraduate students must be registered/enrolled in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.
- Salary Range
- $17.00 per hour.
