Position Summary
The Extrusion Operator I operates and monitors extrusion equipment to maintain optimum cycle times production rates quality standards and safety requirements consistent with company policies. This role assists withmaterial changes mold changes machine setup and machine adjustments while supporting Level 2 and Level 3 operators in the startup and operation of extrusion lines.
The ideal candidate has a demonstrated working knowledge of hand and power tools measurement equipment and standard extrusion practices with the ability to operate multiple machines efficiently and produce quality parts.
Essential Responsibilities
- Load unload and clean dryers and extruder hoppers.
- Monitor process conditions on extrusion equipment.
- Operate cutting equipment to cut stock shapes to final size.
- Use scales micrometers and calipers to measure finished products.
- Record finished product information in QPS (ERP system).
- Perform material handling and in-process inventory activities.
- Clean molds extrusion barrels screws and related equipment.
- Assist with assembly of mold components as needed.
- Package label and transport work-in-process and finished materials.
- Complete required production records forms and files.
- Perform miscellaneous duties within the Extrusion Department as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental teams and communication meetings to support company and department objectives.
- Maintain good housekeeping and safe work practices.
- Operate material handling equipment including forklifts and hand trucks.
- Perform TPM activities including monitoring and adding oil and grease attaching heater band plugs and thermocouples and replacing designated process filters after required training.
- Read understand and follow work instructions for all operations.
- Frequently perform tasks requiring pushing pulling twisting grasping climbing ladders stooping kneeling and working at heights.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety shoes and safety glasses.
Qualifications
- Ability to operate extrusion equipment using prior run sheets and standard extrusion practices.
- Working knowledge of hand tools power tools and measurement equipment.
- Ability to operate multiple machines while maintaining product quality.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 55 pounds without mechanical assistance.
Career Progression
To advance to a Level 2 or Level 3 Extrusion Operator position employees must successfully work as a Level 1 Operator for a minimum of 12 months and demonstrate proficiency in extrusion techniques processes equipment operation and all job responsibilities.
