Job Summary

Analyzes assesses and improves asset integrity reliability and effectiveness of preventative and predictive maintenance based on data collected through Inspection Testing and Maintenance program activity. Performs/participates in inspections reliability incidents investigations rotating equipment reliability analyses optimizations and mechanical integrity reviews; incorporates findings into the asset care strategy.

Performs routine assignments under general supervision. Gaining knowledge of work procedures and practices.

Manufacturing Operations is accepting online applications for the position of Experienced Metals Mechanic located in the El Segundo California Refinery through October 16 2026 at 11:59 pm (Pacific Time Zone).

A Refinery Metals Mechanic is aBoilermaker Pipefitter and Welder that will perform a variety of maintenancerepairand construction type of work in the field and shop settings of the refinery. The duties include weld fabrication of piping equipment and structural removal and installation of new/existing equipment rigging blinding fresh air work confined space work high temperature work position works with other Maintenance crafts Reliability Operations and Technical groups a 24/7 operating refinery working overtime weekendholidayand odd shift work is required.


Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:


  • Performs troubleshooting preventive predictive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Lays outmeasuresand fabricates piping and structural equipment in the field and shop environments.
  • Perform all Metals Craft requirements to safely work on plant equipment.
  • Ability tosafely and effectively utilize hand power and precision tools. Makes necessary craft computations and uses a computer.
  • Works in Process Plant Shop and Off-Plot environments.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and has ability to plan and organize own work.
  • Responsible for the safe and economic use of resources.
  • Looks for and acts on opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs
  • Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations and solutions.
  • Build positive working relationships with operators and other crafts both internally and externally to Chevron.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization including Management Technical Operations and Maintenance.
  • Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of safe work practices and maintain a personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations.
  • This position requires driving on a routine basis.

Required Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Must haveminimum3Years experiencein either Pipe welding Boiler making or Pipe fitting.
  • Must haveminimum3years experiencein the refining or petrochemical industries.
  • Must be able to use computers to enter work histories and perform corporate compliance activities.
  • The position will typically work a 4x10 dayshift work schedule. Typical shifts are Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday but can vary based on work needs. Occasional shift and weekend work will be required.
  • Willing to work overtime holidays nights and weekends.
  • Willing to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies.
  • Willing to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodationon a daily basis.
  • Willing to work in compact and confined spaces with or without accommodation.
  • Willing to climb ladders walk up and down steps and work at heights with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • A minimum5yearsexperiencein pipe weldingandboiler markingandpipe fitting.
  • A minimum5yearsexperienceat an oil refinery.
  • Previous work experience in an industrial plant environment.
  • Associates/Technical Degree or vocational school certificates in Instrumentation Analyzers Engine Maintenance Process Technology Automotive Technology EEREC (Electrical/Electrical Technology) Maintenance Engineer Machine Tool Technology Manufacturing Technology or Chemistry.
  • Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and take initiative to address deficiencies and malfunctions of the equipment in their assigned area.
  • Must have strong team and verbal and written communications skills.
