Job Summary
Position: Exhibit Designer
Status: Full time permanent
Location: Ohio History Center Columbus OH
Salary: $57200 per year

Summary:
Develops and implements exhibit projects at the Ohio History Center and Ohio Village and across the site conjunction with the department head this individual oversees a collaborative exhibit development process and articulates a vision for the experiential and aesthetic direction of exhibits as well as management of overall exhibit schedule. Serves as the primary advocate for the visitor experience in exhibits with an eye to establishing an immersive environment that blends engaging activities and visuals with learning outcomes. Works closely with Interpretive and Content Specialists to develop interactives and other tactile exhibit elements. The employee should be professional self-directed as well as supportive to team projects OHC mission core values and have the able to meet deadlines and complete work within a given budget.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee all facets of the exhibit development process for exhibits working with collections staff curators designers preparators education and program staff audience research staff and marketing and development staff.
- As required by project needs assist in hiring or art directing contract photographers fabricators illustrators graphic designers and fabricators.
- Work directly with vendors to oversee production and installation of exhibit casework environments and graphic
- Design and produce interactive
- Ability to communicate complex concepts and data in unique and compressive methods to meet intended audience educational level.
- Work alongside interpretive and content specialists allowing exhibit design to follow narrative.
- Develop and maintain project budget and reporting.
- Works with site partners volunteer and community groups; manages the activities of internal staff and staff at other institutions to ensure projects are successful.
- Manages and supports elements of project budgeting and appropriate record archiving for

Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelors or Masters degree and or 5-7 years work in exhibit or interpretive experience development
- Work experience in creating museum exhibits for cultural organizations or customer-facing private sector
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in taking a program and/or project from concept to completion
- Able to use project management processes
- Experience leading teams of peers
- Familiarity with hand and shop tools as well as exhibit installation practices
- Able to work well with facilities staff and architects
- Able to create evaluations and use evaluation data for program improvement
- Ability to communicate with staff and the public both orally and in writing and on behalf of a program
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to consider expenses and revenues in developing and managing program budgets
- Proficiency in various office software suites Adobe Creative suits and virtual platforms including but not limited to Microsoft 365
- Effective organizational skills including attention to detail prioritizing and managing multiple tasks for yourself and being accountable to the organization for said tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of varied backgrounds levels of education and
- Ability to design and refine a collaborative and representative exhibit development process for the organization
