Job Title: Exceptional Childrens Personal Care Assistant

Location: Franklin High School

Position Summary

The Exceptional Childrens Personal Care Assistant (EC PCA) provides individualized support to students with disabilities by assisting with personal care mobility health behavioral and instructional needs throughout the school day. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher Exceptional Childrens staff and school administration the EC PCA helps ensure students have safe meaningful access to educational opportunities while promoting independence and dignity.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support

• Assist students with personal care needs including toileting feeding dressing grooming and hygiene as outlined in the students individualized plan

• Provide physical assistance with mobility positioning transfers and the use of adaptive equipment as needed

• Support students in participating safely and successfully in classroom instruction and school activities

• Encourage student independence while providing appropriate levels of assistance

Instructional Support

• Reinforce instructional activities under the supervision of the classroom teacher or Exceptional Childrens staff

• Assist students in completing classroom assignments and learning activities

• Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) behavior intervention plans and other student support plans

• Monitor student progress and communicate observations to instructional staff

Health & Safety

• Follow district procedures regarding student health safety confidentiality and emergency protocols

• Monitor students for health behavioral or emotional concerns and report concerns promptly to appropriate staff

• Maintain a safe clean and supportive learning environment

• Complete required training related to student care safety and crisis response

Collaboration & Communication

• Work collaboratively with teachers therapists nurses administrators and other support staff

• Maintain professional communication with staff and families as directed

• Participate in meetings trainings and professional development opportunities as required

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with federal and state regulations

• Follow district policies school procedures and professional standards

• Perform other duties as assigned to support students and school operations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or college coursework preferred

• Experience working with children individuals with disabilities or in educational or healthcare settings preferred

• Ability to assist students with physical care mobility and daily living activities

• Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism

• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative educational team

Working Conditions

• Frequent standing walking bending kneeling and lifting throughout the workday

• May be required to lift transfer or assist students weighing more than 50 pounds using appropriate lifting techniques and equipment

• Frequent physical assistance with student mobility and personal care

• May work with students exhibiting challenging behaviors or requiring medical and personal care support

• Exposure to typical school and classroom environments
