Evidence Control Manager

The Department of Public Safety State Bureau ofInvestigation is looking for an Evidence Control Manager to oversee all aspects of the departmentsevidence program. As a team Leader the Evidence Control Manager will supervise theentire evidence system and all evidence technicians. This job requiresstrong leadership skills administrative skills organization skills andphysical abilities. This position is located in Salt Lake County.

Principle Duties:

• Facilitate proper handling of evidence and property by all employees.
• Conduct inspections and routine auditing for all evidence rooms.
• Ensure proper disposition and disposal of all evidence and property for
  the Department.
• Act as a liaison with the State Crime Lab.
• Evaluate evidence facilities to meet the required standards for security and functionality.
• Ensure evidence technicians have proper training and equipment.
• Conduct annual department-wide training for all Evidence Technicians.
• Provide training to Department personnel regarding the appropriate logging packaging documentingand storage of property and evidence.
• Serve as a department representative to state and local associations involved with the management ofproperty and evidence.
• Stay consistently aware of local state and federal law involving property and evidence handling.
• Recommend and facilitate appropriate changes.
• Maintain clean and orderly property storage facilities.

Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate:

• Demonstrates professional customer service skills.
• Is self-motivated
• Possesses strong communication skills
• Has computer skills with Word Excel Google etc.
• Has the ability to work with people in a manner which shows sensitivity tact and professionalism
• Exhibits sound decision-making skills
• Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the chain of custody and will demonstrate a meticulous standard for accuracy
• Operates with complete honesty and transparency
• Shows a proactive approach to adaptability and collaboration

Preference may be given to applicants who have:

• Work experience in a supervisory role

• Work experience with evidence intake evidence processing and proper disposal of property
• Are current employees of the Department of Public Safety
• Knowledge and experience of operating evidence software and/or Spillman Flex

Institutional knowledge regarding state & federal statutory and administrative regulations governing the collection and storage of evidence

Supplemental Information:

• Must pass a thorough Level II background investigation
• Risks found in the typical office setting which is adequately lighted heated and ventilated e.g. safe use of office equipment avoiding trips and falls observing fire regulations etc.
• Moderate risk involved in handling specific types of evidence some moderately heavy lifting (less than 50 lbs).
