Position Overview
Riggins Company is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team in Hampton Virginia. This position is responsible for developing accurate competitive estimates for custom fabrication and manufacturing projects while working closely with customers suppliers subcontractors Sales Engineering Project Management and Manufacturing.
The ideal candidate understands how things are built can confidently interpret technical drawings and specifications and is highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Review customer drawings specifications and request-for-quote packages.
Perform material takeoffs and develop material requirements.
Develop manufacturing strategies and labor projections for estimates.
Prepare and maintain estimate and bid documentation.
Solicit organize and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
Identify qualified suppliers and service providers for specialized materials or services.
Identify project risks major milestones conflicts and proposal clarifications.
Communicate technical pricing and scheduling considerations to the appropriate team members.
Support the development of customer proposals.
Participate in estimate reviews and handoff meetings.
Maintain accurate records and meet estimating deadlines.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers suppliers subcontractors and internal teams.
Participate in customer or jobsite visits as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication manufacturing construction estimating or a related industrial environment.
Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and technical specifications.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills related to material labor subcontractor and project costs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple estimates and deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook Excel and Word.
Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment.
Experience in custom metal fabrication shipbuilding defense manufacturing or heavy industrial work is a plus.

Work Environment
This position primarily works in a professional office environment with periodic visits to manufacturing facilities customer locations and industrial jobsites. Jobsite conditions may include outdoor weather waterfront environments elevated noise levels and typical industrial conditions.
