Position Overview:

As an Environmental Test Engineer I youll build hands-on experience in aerospace testing and qualification while working directly in DGs environmental test lab. Rather than focusing on traditional product design youll learn to operate specialized equipment that puts aerospace products through real-world environmental conditions - including vibration shock temperature humidity altitude fluid exposure and more - to evaluate how they perform. Youll set up and conduct tests collect and document data identify and communicate issues or failures to the engineering team and progressively take greater ownership of the lab and its testing activities. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent engineering graduate or early-career engineer who is technically curious enjoys hands-on problem solving and wants to build a specialized career in aerospace testing. DG will provide training on our equipment qualification processes and applicable aerospace testing standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and progressively perform in-house environmental and qualification testing on aerospace antennas lightning arrestors dischargers and related products.
  • Learn to operate DG environmental test equipment used for temperature humidity altitude and decompression vibration shock waterproofness and fluid susceptibility immersion salt fog icing environmental stress screening resonance searches and production verification testing.
  • Set up test articles instrumentation fixtures chambers sensors data-acquisition equipment and supporting hardware under the direction of experienced engineering personnel.
  • Review engineering drawings customer specifications qualification plans test procedures and compliance requirements before testing.
  • Record test conditions equipment settings observations photographs measurements anomalies and results accurately and completely.
  • Support engineering investigations when products fail environmental production or qualification testing helping identify whether failures are related to product design workmanship fixtures equipment instrumentation test setup or test procedure.
  • Provide regular test-status updates and promptly communicate failures anomalies equipment problems and schedule risks to engineering leadership.
  • Assist with the preparation and revision of engineering and qualification documentation including test procedures test reports compliance documentation and engineering evaluation reports.
  • Verify calibration status of environmental test equipment sensors and instrumentation and help maintain an organized clean and safe environmental test laboratory.
  • Assist with testing performed by outside laboratories when DG does not have the required in-house capability including occasional travel to support testing and data collection.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by management
  • Follow all Dayton-Granger safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Aerospace Engineering Electrical Engineering Materials Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Recent engineering graduate or early-career engineer.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems engineering materials instrumentation data collection and technical documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings specifications and test requirements.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work directly with laboratory equipment and test articles.
  • Ability to document work accurately and follow controlled procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and basic engineering documentation systems.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to outside testing laboratories as needed typically 13 trips per year ranging from 1 day to 1 week per trip.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have Not Required):

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Laboratory engineering manufacturing quality or testing internship experience preferred.
