Environmental Engineer

Job Summary
Conducts basic research and development studies support acquisition programs and perform in-service engineering efforts vital to Environment Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) control of Navy and Marine Corps aircraft. Incumbent is familiar with the materials and processes that inhibit eliminate and control corrosion cleaners strippers and organic coatings and is an expert on the effects of these materials on the environment. Experience with the Department of Navy programs to reduce or eliminate oxygen-depleting solvents from cleaners and Hazardous Materials from degreasers and exterior aircraft cleaners is preferred.
- Outline assignments for chemists and support staff based on skills and abilities.
- Solves Fleet problems when they arise in their technical areas including defective materials and impacts to human health and the environment.
- Develops HAZMAT and Pollution Prevention plans evaluates ongoing HAZMAT Management and Pollution Prevention programs applies Pollution Prevention methodologies to resolve compliance issues and conducts cost benefit analyses for material substitution and Pollution Prevention projects etc.
- Develops plans to ensure consideration is given to the elimination/reduction of hazardous materials and to the proper control of hazardous materials that are not eliminated for system(s) system components and associated support items throughout all phases of the system life.
- Focuses on eliminating or reducing hazardous materials early in the design of processes and system products.
- Familiar with local state and federal environmental rules and regulations and has a working knowledge of international environmental policies such as REACH.
Other Job Functions:
Some travel maybe required. This may entail inspection trips to the Fleet Readiness Centers (FRCs) or vendors plants. It may require management of research and development test and evaluation of work in the Navy and industry laboratories under NAVAIR funded programs.
Qualifications/Education:
Bachelors degree in General Materials Chemical Environmental Engineering Physical Scientist or Chemist is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job the employee routinely is required to learn and apply new information and/or skills. Must be able to interpret data information and documents.
Occasionally will need to lift/and or move up to 45lbs.
Occasional Travel may be required.
