Job Summary

Summary

You will serve as a Engineering Equipment Operator with US Fish and Wildlife maintains and repairs heavy equipment and facilities to support excavation grading earthmoving infrastructure projects and refuge operations. Leads activities by planning work steps promoting safe practices training others and maintaining accurate equipment and maintenance records. The pay is $30.12-$35.12 per hour. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.


Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Moves equipment/materials safely and effectively around job sites.
  • Maintaining/repairing infrastructure (consistently completing tasks)
  • Performs maintenance on motor vehicles heavy equipment and small equipment.
  • Follows equipment manuals and maintenance instructions.
  • Performs maintenance/repair of buildings fences water control structures etc.

    Qualifications

    For current Federal employees if hours worked per week are not included on your resume you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees your resume must state either full-time (or 40 hours a week) or part-time with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
    To qualify for this position you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

    1. Ability to do the work of Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
    2. Operation of Motor Vehicles
    3. Reliability and Dependability as a Engineer Equipment Operator
    4. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
    5. Ability To Interpret Instructions Specifications etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)
    6. Work Practices (including keeping things neat clean and in order)

    Physical Demands: The position requires heavy physical effort when operating and adjusting equipment and attachments as well as performing maintenance on facilities equipment and related attachments. The work involves considerable physical strain due to constant equipment vibration and jolting while operating over rough or uneven surfaces. Job duties routinely require extended periods of standing and walking as well as frequent kneeling bending lifting and carrying. Employees must be able to lift and carry objects or loads weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance.

    Working Conditions: Work is performed almost entirely outdoors in all weather conditions and around moving equipment hazardous terrain fumes dust and other environmental risks. Employees must follow all safety procedures and use required protective equipment to prevent injuries from machinery falls hazardous materials and other potential dangers.
