Engineering Equipment Operator
Job Summary
This position is a Career-Seasonal permanent position and includes the same benefits as permanent appointments but does provide work on a year-round basis. This position is located in Oregon Burns District.
The primary purpose of this position is to operate one or more types of engineering and construction heavy equipment. Also may perform various non-series controlling related duties up to the WG-08.
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:
Operate one or more pieces of heavy engineering equipment during the performance of basic operations associated with the reconstruction and maintenance of gravel and/or surfaced highways and BLM access roads.
Equipment consists of tractors with attachments dozer tractors front-end loaders backhoes excavators rollers brooms brush cutters dump trucks with trailers semi-truck with low-boy trailer.
Work performed includes clearing brush tree stumps rocks and other material; moving sand gravel snow and ice; transferring material into dump trucks; and maneuvering equipment in confined areas.

Career-Seasonal appointments will last for approximately 6 months and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which youre selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
Telework: The duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
Physical Effort: This position requires significant physical effort including frequent reaching bending twisting and continuous use of the hands arms feet and legs to operate equipment and its attachments. The work involves prolonged exposure to equipment vibration and often requires maintaining awkward or physically demanding positions. The incumbent may also be required to frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and exert comparable force when pushing pulling turning or positioning parts assemblies equipment and tools.
Working Conditions: This position requires work both indoors and outdoors with the majority of duties performed outdoors. The incumbent is frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions including rain snow mud and extreme temperatures as well as noise vibration dust dirt fumes exhaust oils and damp conditions.
The work involves operating heavy equipment and exposure to hazards such as equipment overturning and injuries including cuts abrasions bruises and strains. The incumbent is required to follow established safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including hearing protection hard hats and other required safety gear.
