The Maryland Alcohol Tobacco and Cannabis Commission (ATCC) is seeking aqualified individual to join its Field Enforcement Division as a LawEnforcement Agent for a future opening. This is an opportunity to serve theState of Maryland in a dynamic law enforcement environment focused onprotecting the public promoting regulatory compliance and safeguarding staterevenues.

The ATCC is responsible for regulating Marylands alcohol and tobaccoindustries and enforcing laws and regulations governing the lawful saledistribution and possession of alcohol and tobacco products. The Commissionalso supports the Maryland Cannabis Administration and Marylands regulatedcannabis industry by conducting inspections investigating suspectedviolations and taking appropriate enforcement action to ensure compliance withapplicable laws and regulations.

The ATCCs mission is to advance public safety support economic growthand reduce public harm by promoting the responsible sale and consumption ofalcohol tobacco and cannabis products through consistent and predictableadministration and enforcement. The Commission accomplishes this missionthrough regulatory expertise effective enforcement practices moderntechnology sound operational processes and the continuous evaluation ofemerging products industry practices and regulatory approaches.

The Field Enforcement Division plays a critical role in fulfilling theATCCs public safety mission. Field Enforcement Agents work throughout Marylandto protect consumers from illicit and unauthorized alcohol tobacco andcannabis products entering the marketplace while helping ensure that staterevenues are protected.

Agents conduct routine and unannounced inspections investigationssurveillance compliance checks interviews evidence collection andenforcement operations involving businesses and individuals regulated by theATCC. Agents are responsible for identifying violations documentinginvestigative findings seizing contraband when authorized preparing detailedinvestigative reports and providing testimony in administrative and judicialproceedings when required.

The Field Enforcement Division also provides education and guidance tothe regulated industries through a balanced approach of inspection educationand enforcement. Agents work to promote voluntary compliance while takingdecisive enforcement action when violations threaten public safety underminethe integrity of Marylands regulated industries or result in the unlawfulsale or distribution of regulated products.

As Marylands alcohol tobacco and cannabis industries continue toevolve the Field Enforcement Division strives to maintain a modern adaptableand consistent enforcement program. Agents must be prepared to respond tochanges in legislation emerging products evolving business practices and newmethods used to circumvent Marylands regulatory requirements.

The ATCC headquarters is located in Baltimore City however; EnforcementAgents are generally assigned in the field to regional areas throughout thestate.

Qualified applicants must have the following qualifications.

Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate as described in the Maryland Policeand Corrections Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Four years of experience as a police officer investigating crimes including motor vehicle accidents and responding to emergency calls for police services or as an Enforcement Agent responsible for assessing and enforcing compliance to laws and regulations pertaining to commodity products such as but not limited to alcoholic beverage tobacco product cannabis products and related revenue laws and regulations.

1. The above education requirement is set by the Maryland Policeand Corrections Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article Section 3-209 Annotated Code of Maryland.

2. Applicants may substitute additional education in criminaljustice or law enforcement at an accredited college or university at a rate of 30credit hours for each six months of the required experience for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in general inspection investigation enforcement and complianceclassification or generalinspection investigationenforcement and compliance specialtycodes in the logistics field of work on a year-for-year basis for therequiredexperience.

Qualified candidates must have thefollowing qualification:

Only currently certified MPCTC police officersor applicants that meet the qualification for recertification as a sworn policeofficer in Maryland due to a separation in police service for less than 3 yearswill be considered in accordance with MD Public Safety CodeSection 3-210 (a) will be considered.

The following are preferred qualifications:

2years experiencewith criminal investigations any specific unit assignments and reportpreparation and testimony.

6months experience conducting compliance inspections of businesses.

1 ormore special assignments where you have been a part of as a team memberor leader.

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be requiredto possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. After training employeesin this classificationwill be required to maintain periodic certification of essential marksmanship in the firing of a handgun andother firearms that may be necessary to carry out assignments.

3. Employees in this classification must have successfully completed the EntranceLevel Police Training Course required by the Maryland Police and CorrectionsTraining Commission and hold a current police officer certification by the Maryland Policeand Corrections Training Commission.

1. Selection standards for police officer certification are established by the Maryland Policeand Corrections Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article Section 3-209of the Annotated Code of Maryland. Theseselection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12 Subtitle 04 Chapter 01 and include the following: Appointment as a police officer U.S. Citizenship; A complete background investigation; Oral interview; Physical examination; Possession of a Drivers License valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to be on call 24 hours a day and must provide the agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing inaccordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09 Testing for IllegalUse of Drugs.

4. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and todemonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.

5. Employees in this classification may be subject to assignment in any area of theState.

6. Employees in this classification may be subject to long hours of driving to out of state locations.

7. Employees in this classification may be subject to extended workdays on a regular basis.
