An outstanding opportunity is available for an experienced Emergency Services RN Director to lead the Emergency Department of a 150-bed acute care hospital in beautiful Lake Havasu City Arizona.

We are seeking a proven Emergency Department nursing leader who combines strong clinical expertise with an approachable highly visible leadership style. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a busy ED while joining a team that values camaraderie collaboration accountability and exceptional patient care.

The Emergency Department manages a diverse patient population ranging from high-acuity emergencies and trauma to environmental and recreational injuries along with significant seasonal volume fluctuations associated with the areas tourism and outdoor lifestyle.

This position requires a decisive clinically credible RN leader who understands Emergency Department operations and can successfully balance patient care staff engagement quality financial performance regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

Position Overview

The Emergency Services RN Director is responsible for the overall strategic clinical and operational leadership of the Emergency Department.

This leader will oversee department operations while developing a high-performing team and ensuring the delivery of safe efficient evidence-based emergency care.

The Director will have responsibility for staffing recruitment employee development performance management patient experience quality outcomes regulatory compliance budgeting equipment and supplies and overall departmental performance.

Key Responsibilities
Emergency Department Leadership
  • Provide strategic clinical and operational leadership for Emergency Services.
  • Maintain a strong presence within the department and build trusted relationships with nursing staff physicians and hospital leadership.
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability for clinical and operational performance.
  • Promote a collaborative team-oriented environment focused on exceptional patient care.
  • Lead the department effectively during high-acuity situations and periods of significant patient volume.
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient flow throughput quality and overall department efficiency.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices into clinical protocols and department operations.
Staff Leadership & Development
  • Lead mentor coach and develop Emergency Department nursing staff.
  • Oversee staffing and scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage based on patient volume and acuity.
  • Manage employee performance and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
  • Address employee relations and conflict management issues appropriately.
  • Promote employee engagement retention and staff satisfaction.
  • Oversee recruitment interviewing hiring onboarding and staff development.
  • Create opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • Support student and clinical education activities within the department.
  • Ensure payroll and staffing processes are managed accurately and efficiently.
Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
  • Maintain high standards for Emergency Department clinical care and patient safety.
  • Ensure evidence-based clinical practices are consistently incorporated into department operations.
  • Monitor quality indicators patient outcomes and department performance.
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement and implement appropriate action plans.
  • Ensure staff competency and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Promote a culture of patient safety accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient care and outcomes.
Financial & Operational Management
  • Develop monitor and manage the Emergency Department budget.
  • Monitor staffing productivity overtime supplies and other departmental expenses.
  • Evaluate departmental equipment technology and supply needs.
  • Develop appropriate justification for capital equipment and other purchases.
  • Oversee vendor relationships and departmental contracts.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and supplies are appropriately stocked.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and resource utilization.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure Emergency Department operations remain compliant with applicable federal and state regulations accreditation standards hospital policies and professional nursing standards.
  • Maintain department readiness for regulatory surveys and accreditation reviews.
  • Ensure staff maintains required licenses certifications competencies and training.
  • Implement corrective actions when compliance or performance concerns are identified.
Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Current Arizona RN license or qualifying Compact RN license with appropriate Arizona eligibility.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program required.
  • Emergency Department nursing experience required.
  • Proven Emergency Department leadership experience required.
  • Current or required BLS/BCLS certification.
  • Current or required ACLS certification.
  • Current or required PALS certification.
  • Current or required TNCC certification.
  • Current or required Handle with Care certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Nursing Healthcare Administration Business Administration or another relevant field.
  • Previous Director-level Emergency Services experience.
  • Experience leading a high-acuity Emergency Department.
  • Experience managing seasonal fluctuations in ED volume.
  • Strong background in patient throughput quality improvement staffing and financial management.
Critical Must-Haves

The hiring team is specifically seeking an RN leader with:

  • Emergency Department clinical nursing experience
  • Emergency Department leadership experience
  • BSN
  • Arizona or qualifying Compact RN licensure
  • Strong understanding of high-acuity Emergency Services operations
  • Ability to effectively lead and develop an ED nursing team
  • Strong critical-thinking and decision-making skills
  • A visible approachable leadership style

This is not a position for a nursing leader without direct Emergency Department experience. The successful candidate must understand the pace complexity staffing challenges and clinical demands of Emergency Services.

Compensation

Salary Range: $111000$150000

Final compensation will be based on the candidates experience qualifications and leadership background.
