POSITION: Special Education Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
STARTING DATE: Immediately
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement.
- Graduate of a recognized college or university.
- Highly Qualified as defined by the Michigan Department of Education.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current certification in district-approved crisis de-escalation and non-violent physical intervention (i.e. CPI Safety-Care).
- Full endorsement in Emotional Impairment (SE) under MARSE R 340.1787.
- Masters Degree in Special Education or related field.
- Two to three years of experience providing behavioral intervention PBIS or teaching in an early elementary special education setting.
- Sound knowledge of Michigan Special Education Rules including R340.1706 (Emotional Impairment Criteria) R 340.1741 (EI Programs) R 340.1721b (Timelines) and R 340.1781/R 340.1783 (Teacher Endorsement/Approvals).
- Deep understanding of early childhood behavior modification PBIS FBA/BIP formulation trauma-informed practices and developmentally appropriate co-regulation.
- Proficiency in data-driven decision-making daily behavioral tracking systems and converting behavioral data into actionable IEP goals.
- Strong early elementary pedagogy skills with the ability to deliver foundational academic instruction (phonics early math) integrated with social-emotional skill-building.
