Job Description Elementary Community Liaison (Attendance and School Community)

Work Year: 10 months (traditional school calendar)

Hours: 8am to 2:30pm

(Daily schedule may be adjusted to meet program needs)

Salary Informatio: Range 19

Basic Functions: This job class is responsible for providing a communication link between schools teachers community and district. To strengthen school connections the Community Liaison will work with designated students and their families regarding available programs services and activities. Community Liaisons will actively work to improve attendance rates and reduce chronic absenteeism through data evaluation and communication. Employees in this classification must possess a high level of communication skills initiative and creativity.

Typical Duties:

  • Acts as liaison to assist school staff students and families with improved communication and in resolving attendance issues through enlisting support from parents.
  • Monitors and evaluates the needs of enrolled students and families. Confers with teachers and administration concerning student and family progress.
  • Coordinates activities and services offered in and off campus to ensure proper implementation of school goals. Coordinates community and school site programs as directed.
  • Attends a variety of meetings hearings conferences and appointments with students families staff and community partners as well as the district office.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate records and documentation on designated students and prepares detailed reports concerning school records attendance home visits and communication with families.
  • Uses different programs and student information systems to create reports record data and track progress.
  • Includes some evening and weekend hours for community events
  • Duties may include:
    • Completing home visits as necessary in order to disseminate and/or collect necessary information relevant to the students success at school.
    • Bridging communication and sharing of information between the family and student and the school staff and administration. Coordinating student team meetings.
    • Meeting with families to discuss school procedures and involve them in school/district activities.
    • Working with community agencies to determine what services are available to families.
    • Making appropriate referrals.
    • Monitoring progress utilizing data software.
    • Be part of the site Attendance Team District Attendance Collaborative and participating in Attendance SSTs SARTs DA Mediation SARB and Truancy Court.

Employment Standards:

  • Performs clerical duties in support of assigned school site.
  • Performs related duties consistent with job description.
  • Possession of a valid California Drivers License.
  • Knowledge of District policy and procedures the local community and the various services available from community organizations.
  • Ability to demonstrate bilingual/bicultural proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to speak read and write in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions in an independent manner.
  • Ability to maintain a variety of records including confidential records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to plan and organize required activities according to stated policies and objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to facilitate communication in difficult situations and about sensitive topics.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships in the performance of required duties.
