Job Summary

We have an opening for an Electrician I/Electrician II to support the Superblock area. You will perform a variety of specialized journey-level electrical trade functions in the inspection operation installation repair replacement testing and troubleshooting of electrical components and equipment. You will interact with clients supervisors maintenance/building coordinators inspectors Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) technicians co-workers and other craft personnel.  This position is in the Maintenance Production Division within the Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities Department. This position may require working at Site 300 in Tracy California.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Perform basic journey-level specialized electrical trade functions in the installation maintenance operations repair replacement testing and troubleshooting of facility systems and uninterruptable power supplies.
  • Perform maintenance operations construction repairs and testing on facility electrical systems and associated equipment to restore systems to operational condition.
  • Provide effective and timely customer service to clients and team members. Interact with facility managers facility point-of-contacts inspectors and ES&H technicians. Work with other craft personnel and provide technical guidance.
  • Analyze prepare and deliver reports required for managing projects work orders and preventative maintenance records. Perform lock out/tag out to isolate components and de-energize equipment.
  • Complete preventative maintenance requests deficiency reports and work orders using a personal computer. Follow all national local and Laboratory safety procedures and policies including lock out/tag out selecting and using appropriate personal protective equipment and actively participating in Laboratory work planning and control process; and maintain institutional and job-specific training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities at the 824.2 level

  • Responsible for troubleshooting equipment for the distribution and utilization of electrical energy that are less than 600 volts. Work is performed on building power systems and batter systems.
  • Work with specialized test equipment in addition to standard tools of the electrician trade and various power tools including drills saws and benders.

Qualifications :

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • High school diploma GED or equivalent and completion of related apprentice training program or equivalent journey-level work experience in the electrician trade.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain inspect operate install repair replace diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
  • Basic journey-level skills knowledge and abilities in the electrician trade including electrical codes and applicable Safety policies and procedures. and complete required training including hazard reviews and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of all hand tools and portable power tools of the trade.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact and work independently and effectively with other crafts personnel team members managers administrative staff and provide essential customer service to clients.
  • Basic knowledge of computer and associated software to complete timekeeping emails computer-based training logs reports maintenance records and project closeout documentation including the ability to interpret related technical documents.
  • Ability to wear required respiratory protection and perform work within a nuclear environment. Following appropriate radiation protection and contamination control procedural compliance requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California drivers license; work scheduled on-call and emergency overtime lift up to 50 a safe and controlled manner and work in confined spaces.
  • Experience analyzing data and preparing reports required for projects work orders and preventive maintenance records.

Additional qualifications at the 824.2 level

  • Journey- level skills knowledge and abilities in the electrician trade including electrical codes and applicable ES&H laws and regulations.
  • Specialized skills knowledge of and ability to install maintain diagnose and repair test and troubleshoot motor controls PLCs and power distribution equipment within a commercial industrial high hazard or nuclear facility.
  • Experience with specialized test equipment such as voltmeters ohmmeters megohmmeters insulation testers and relay test equipment.
  • Valid State of California General Electrician License.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience supporting facility systems in operational and construction environments.
  • Ability to lead other workers on projects involving multiple electrical workers or other crafts.
  • Experience with maintenance and reliability standards and concepts such as root cause analysis reliability centered maintenance continuous improvement NFPA 70B and ANSI/NETA testing specifications.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and technical documents including plans isometrics specifications and equipment manuals.

Pay Range
$45.74 - $55.60 Hourly for the 824.1 level
$48.08 - $58.43 Hourly for the 824.2 level
This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement and step structure. Step placement will be determined after your qualifications are fully assessed during the interview process.
