The Role

General Motors is transforming the transportation industry through advanced electrical architectures high-performance computing and the integration of ADAS and infotainment capabilities. GMs Software-Defined Vehicle 2.0 (SDV2) platform is our next-generation centralized computing architecture. At the heart of this transformation is an in-house designed liquid-cooled central compute unit that enables faster development cycles more efficient software updates and seamless scalability across every GM brand.

As an Electrical Hardware Engineer - Compute Validation you will play a key role in the validation and release readiness of next-generation high-compute ECUs that enable automated driving vehicle intelligence and immersive digital experiences. This role is intended for an experienced engineer who can independently drive validation activities across prototype and production-intent hardware with direct ownership of environmental and EMC validation planning execution issue tracking and closure. You will work cross-functionally with design systems software mechanical manufacturing and vehicle integration teams to ensure robust hardware performance across real-world automotive conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Compute Validation Ownership

  • Own validation planning and execution for central compute hardware across bench subsystem and vehicle-relevant test environments.
  • Develop validation strategies test plans and coverage aligned to product requirements design risk areas and program milestones.
  • Drive issue identification debug coordination root-cause tracking and closure of hardware validation concerns.
  • Partner with design engineers to ensure validation feedback is incorporated into design updates test escapes are addressed and lessons learned are captured.

Environmental and EMC Ownership

  • Own environmental validation activities including thermal vibration mechanical shock humidity and other applicable reliability test scopes for compute hardware.
  • Own EMC/EMI validation coordination including test readiness test execution support issue triage and corrective action follow-up.
  • Work with internal and external test labs to define setups review results document failures and track actions to closure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve hardware robustness and compliance performance based on validation outcomes.

Bring-Up Debug and Test Execution

  • Lead board bring-up and validation activities for prototype and early development hardware including power-on sequencing debug and functional verification.
  • Perform and guide bench-level testing including signal quality checks voltage/current measurements thermal characterization and functional stress testing.
  • Support failure analysis and debug of issues related to power interfaces component interactions environmental exposure and EMC performance.
  • Review data from validation events and provide clear recommendations on risk readiness and next actions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with silicon partners and internal engineering teams across hardware software systems safety and feature development.
  • Support integration across electrical mechanical thermal manufacturing and vehicle teams to ensure complete validation coverage.
  • Contribute to design reviews test reviews milestone assessments and technical discussions with a strong validation perspective.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance within validation workstreams and help align execution across internal contributors and test partners.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure validation activities support compliance to applicable automotive standards and expectations including design robustness EMC/EMI reliability and manufacturability.
  • Support DFMEA DVP&R test traceability issue management and requirement-to-validation coverage.
  • Document validation results technical risks and open issues in a clear and actionable manner for program leadership and engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in hardware validation electronics engineering embedded systems or compute platform development.
  • Strong experience with hardware validation of complex electronic modules or ECUs.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Digital electronics power architecture and embedded hardware fundamentals
    • High-speed interfaces such as PCIe Ethernet USB and DDR
    • Hardware bring-up lab debug and failure analysis methods
    • Environmental and EMC/EMI validation processes for automotive or similar high-reliability applications
  • Hands-on experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes multimeters power supplies logic analyzers and related debug tools.
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage validation tasks and drive issues to closure across cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with central compute ADAS ECUs infotainment or other high-performance embedded computing platforms.
  • Experience owning or leading environmental and/or EMC validation activities for an automotive electronic module.
  • Understanding of automotive electronics standards design for reliability and hardware release processes.
  • Familiarity with DVP&R DFMEA requirement traceability and structured validation documentation.
  • Experience with tools such as Microsoft Office Mathcad or similar engineering tools.
  • Effective communicator who can operate with ownership while collaborating across a fast-paced product development organization.
