Position Overview:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is accountable for functioning at high levels of effectiveness in both hands-on and strategic functions with the Brownsburg Plant 103 distribution center operations team working closely with the Site Director salaried and hourly workforce to facilitate the development of a strong safety culture built on effective efficient and compliant safety and environmental processes.
The position reports to the Sr. EHS Manager functioning as a business partner with the Brownsburg Site Director. The role will require approximately 90% focus on safety/occupational health and 10% on environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership by developing implementing and managing safety programs consistent with Mercury standards and Brunswick Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure a sustainable engaged and compliant safety culture.
- Provide training on required topics to hourly and salaried workforce.
- Promote a team environment and increase team engagement in safety.
- Lead and facilitate group activities including organizing and hosting safety week activities workplace audits and other facility-based activities.
- Apply working knowledge of safety and environmental compliance requirements including fall protection dock safety moving vehicles ergonomics chemical safety and hazardous material handling to drive continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma (LSS) principles.
- Conduct job safety analysis and process risk assessments to ensure safe work practices and appropriate safety measures are in place though a team approach.
- Assist management with long term planning related to safety activities and facility goals that drive business improvement and align with leadership objectives.
- Serve as emergency response coordinator.
- Ensure effective investigation of incidents development of corrective actions and communication of results utilizing corporate reporting platforms.
- Manage workers compensation claims for three locations including Fresno CA and Suwannee GA.
- Identify emerging trends critical process and system needs in support of action plans measures and metrics for annual planning and budgeting processes.
- Partner closely with site leadership and Human Resources.
- Provide EHS support to two additional locations Fresno CA and Suwannee GA.
- Coordinate periodic evaluation of facility environmental programs per Mercury and Brunswick EHS standards.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste for small quantity generators (SQG) EPA regulation.
- Manage Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) and other compliance programs and sustainability initiatives.
- Complete Tier II and other environmental reports.
- Other activities as directed.
- Travel required 20%

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in health and safety engineering environmental science or a related field
- 5 years experience in safety health environmental role in a distribution or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge background and application of regulatory requirements (IOSHA IEPA FM Global etc.)
- Knowledge of LSS principles and methodologies preferred.
- Strong leadership interpersonal verbal and writing communication skills.
- Able to take direction work independently and collaboratively
- OSHA VPP experience preferred but not required
- High degree of flexibility able to plan prioritize and adjust methods as needed.

The hiring range for this position is $86500 to $126800 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary based on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills relevant experience business needs and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidates qualifications and the business context.
In addition to base pay this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
