Job Summary
You will serve as a Education Technician within the Division of Interpretation at Cane River Creole National Historical Park.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as permanent appointments but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 11 months and you will be in a non-pay status from mid-August through mid-September for a total of 2 pay periods.
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:
- Assists with the development of curricula-based school programs which are relevant to park interpretive themes and conform to appropriate state and national teaching standards.
- Assists with the evaluation of all curriculum-based materials for appropriateness and effectiveness.
- Presents curriculum-based education programs for pre-school-grade 12 in accordance with NPS policy and to support the park mission purpose and significance using contemporary education methods and techniques including distance learning/video conference software.
- Delivers education programs in an engaging fashion in accordance with current educational pedagogy and interpretive principles and best practices using inquiry-based methods and hands-on activities.
- Assists in planning organizing and presenting workshops for teachers and other educators and develops workshop and orientation materials.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

- You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
- You may be required to work on-call evenings weekends holidays overtime and shift work.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest meet the organization goals and mission of the agency and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the determining if your employment advances the public interest the agency will consider:
- your performance and conduct;
- the needs and interests of the agency;
- whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and
- whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level:
- Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience such as delivering education programs in an engaging fashion in accordance with current educational pedagogy and interpretive principles and best practices using inquiry-based methods and hands-on activities. Assisting with the development and coordination of youth education programs and childrens education activities. Assisting with research to develop curriculum-based activities and support materials. Assisting in planning organizing and presenting workshops for teachers and other educators and developing workshop and orientation materials.
This position does not allow substituting education for experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work may require extended periods of speaking standing sitting walking vehicular travel and
lifting of program props or boxes of 40 pounds. Work will be with constantly changing audiences such as school groups ranging in age from pre-school to high school and is physically and intellectually from the park to school sites is required at times. Because the position works with
children must have Basic First Aid and CPR certification. Work is performed both outdoors and indoors. Conditions may include severe weather cold heat wind lightning snow and rain. Temperatures range from 100 degrees F to 30 degrees F with often high levels of humidity.
