Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides compassionate person-centered support to individuals with disabilities or other support needs. The DSP assists individuals with daily living activities personal goals community participation and maintaining the highest possible level of independence dignity and quality of life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position may require standing walking bending lifting assisting with transfers and other physical activities necessary to safely support individuals with daily living needs. Specific requirements vary according to the individuals support needs and work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct respectful and individualized support based on each persons needs preferences and service plan.
- Assist with activities of daily living including personal care hygiene dressing meal preparation and medication reminders or assistance as permitted.
- Support individuals in developing and maintaining independence and life skills.
- Encourage participation in recreational social educational vocational and community activities.
- Provide transportation or transportation assistance as required.
- Promote a safe clean and supportive living environment.
- Monitor individuals health safety behavior and overall well-being and report concerns promptly.
- Follow individualized service plans organizational policies safety procedures and applicable regulations.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services activities incidents and significant observations.
- Communicate effectively with individuals families caregivers supervisors and other members of the support team.
- Provide appropriate behavioral support and follow established intervention strategies when applicable.
- Protect the individuals privacy confidentiality rights and personal dignity at all times.
- Assist with household tasks and meal planning/preparation when appropriate.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
- Attend required training staff meetings and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred/required depending on organizational requirements.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain patient professional dependable and compassionate in challenging situations.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record may be required.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks training and certifications.
