Job Description Summary
This position provides instructional support to the Truck Driving program Decision Driving and the Truck Driving Contract Training as well as other areas of the College as needed. Under the general direction of the Truck Driving Director the Driver Trainer provides comprehensive hands-on training that produces skilled drivers to safely operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) and meet industry workforce needs. They will deliver the appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to obtain their Commercial Drivers License (CDL).Job Description
- Monitor and train students in the Truck Driving program WDDC and Truck Driving Contract Training.
- Schedule and administer student road evaluations.
- Train and develop students with little or no experience in pre/post trip inspections shifting coupling/uncoupling trailers driving the commercial motor vehicle and other hands-on activities involving the vehicle.
- Determine the students ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicles on the driving ranges and on public roadways monitor and document their progress and provide feedback to the students and faculty.
- Participate as an active team member in Truck Driving program WDDC and Truck Driving Contract Training.
- Provide training in emergency driving and skid control techniques as required by the Decision Driving workshop curriculum.
- Serve as a liaison with the Diesel and Automotive Departments to ensure all equipment is operational for Truck Driving program WDDC and Truck Driving Contract Training.
- Meet all aspects of properly maintaining the Truck Driving and WDDC driving facility and ranges.
- Administer Third Party road tests as a Commercial Drivers License Examiner.
- Monitor truck driving safety bay to ensure proper usage and cleanliness of facility parking of units organization and inventory of items and ensure all program equipment is stored properly.
- Direct student activity to ensure that the instructional equipment and bay area are kept clean.
- Comply with all regulatory requirements of local state and federal agencies in operational or training capacities.
- Snow removal during winter months.
- Painting of traffic lines on Truck Driving/WDDC driving ranges.
- Other duties as needed.
- Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in Transportation.
- Three years of recent related experience.
- Requires a valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and acceptable driving record.
- Subject to FVTCs Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) Check Disclosure.
- Work is commonly completed in person with elements supported in a virtual or hybrid environment.
- Work is typically performed in a classroom and laboratory.
- Work is occasionally performed outdoors during both daytime and nighttime hours and in all conditions.
- Sitting: This role may require extended periods of sitting while performing tasks applicable to the job.
- Mobility: While much of the work may be stationary mobility may be necessary for attending meetings facility tours teaching in lab or other events.
- Lifting and Carrying: The role requires occasional/continuous lifting and carrying of light to moderate items (50 pounds).
- Climbing: Capability to climb such items as vehicle steps ladders or other applications specific to the job.
- Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions applicable to the job without discomfort or injury.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees candidates and stakeholders both in-person and through electronic means.
- Travel: Instructor position may require off-site teaching fieldwork or travel for professional development.
- Driving/Operational: Qualified to operate a vehicle or equipment as required in the position.
- Other: Depending on the specific requirements of the instructional role (e.g. teaching specialized physical education courses conducting outdoor education) additional physical requirements may need to be specified.

Additional Information
Starting Range: $27.47 - $32.32 per hour.
Pay is based on a multitude of factors including experience qualifications education relevant certifications internal equity and market data.
Note: Internal applicants wage will be based upon the applicable compensation guidelines.
