Job Description Summary:

Under limited supervision as a member of the Urban Parks management team and manages and supervises operations of city parks and facilities in the downtown area. This includes staff supervision budget management water conservation and other duties of park operations. This position also is responsible for high levels of coordination with cultural activities special events and city and community partners to ensure that downtown parks contribute to economic vitality as well as community well-being.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs and supervises maintenance work crews including planning coordination and performance evaluation.

  • Monitors work progress and ensures quality in work performed.

  • Promotes teamwork resolves conflicts and supports employee development.

  • Manages day-to-day park maintenance operations and oversees landscape management and water conservation efforts.

  • Develops a budget monitors expenditures and manages equipment and supply purchases.

  • Handles administrative tasks such as preparing bid specifications tracking expenditures and providing input on equipment purchases.

  • Provides technical guidance and training in various maintenance areas.

  • Participates in emergency response standby and oversees snow removal operations when required.

  • Ensures safety compliance and reports accidents and property damage.

  • Assists with event planning organizing and executing various events and activities within the park or related facilities. This includes coordinating logistics managing vendors and ensuring that events run smoothly providing enjoyable experiences for attendees.

  • Engages and collaborates with various stakeholders including community members local authorities nonprofit organizations and other relevant groups. This involves fostering positive relationships addressing concerns and seeking input to enhance the parks role and impact within the community.

  • Provides oversight and manages specialized facilities within parks or related areas. This involves in-depth knowledge of the unique requirements regulations and maintenance practices specific to specialized facilities such as municipal complexes amphitheaters or historical sites ensure these facilities are maintained to high standards operate efficiently and provide exceptional experiences for visitors while complying with industry-specific regulations and safety standards

  • Upholds the citys values including customer service respect integrity collaboration and innovation. Takes a leadership role within the parks management efficiently assigning and coordinating tasks and providing guidance as needed.

  • Performs supervisory functions such as hiring training and performance management of regular seasonal and other team members.

  • Facilitates and coordinates training programs focusing on equipment safety parks maintenance wildlife management and other relevant areas.

  • Schedules and scopes contracted work ensuring timely completion and adherence to project specifications.

  • Oversees the City of Boulder Park and Playground Safety Program including conducting repairs safety inspections and equipment maintenance.

  • Oversees a range of horticultural tasks such as planting fertilizing pruning and effective weed control.

  • Schedules and coordinates comprehensive turf maintenance practices including mowing fertilization aeration and irrigation management.

  • Coordinates with irrigation division to implement and maintain irrigation systems while promoting water conservation practices.

  • Enforces procedures regulations and policies to create a secure work environment

  • Works rotational supervisory emergency response standby as required.

  • Participates in snow removal and de-ice treatment; may be required to act as snow supervisor during snow events.

  • Directs and oversees the snow response and actions.

  • Acts as on call supervisor for snow removal and other emergency operations.

  • Ability to read various operational manuals schematic drawings and blueprints and provide feedback in the planning and design phases.

  • Knowledge and preparedness to effectively respond to emergency situations within park facilities including coordinating emergency plans ensuring the safety of visitors and staff and managing crisis situations.

  • Knowledge and ability to provide technical guidance and expertise to staff and team members including advising on best practices troubleshooting technical issues and offering solutions for complex operational challenges.

  • Knowledge and understanding of event planning organizing and executing various events and activities within the park or related facilities. This includes coordinating logistics managing vendors and ensuring that events run smoothly providing enjoyable experiences for attendees.

  • Knowledge at a thorough level and understanding of the methods materials and equipment involved in the operation and maintenance of parks multi-use trails and other parks facilities.

  • Knowledge at a thorough level of landscaping principles maintenance requirements and standards and practical application of horticulture practices turfgrass maintenance IPM theory and application equipment maintenance and operation.

  • Knowledge at an in-depth level of the unique requirements regulations and maintenance practices specific to specialized facilities such as municipal complexes pedestrian malls amphitheaters or historical sites.

  • Skills and competence in creating and managing budgets for park operations including allocating resources effectively monitoring expenditures and making financial decisions that align with organizational goals and fiscal responsibility.

  • Skills and proficiency in overseeing and managing specialized facilities within parks or related areas.

  • Skills and proficiency in overseeing the day-to-day operations of parks and related facilities including scheduling maintenance and ensuring the overall functionality of the park area for the benefit of visitors and the community.

  • Skills at a strong level in leadership including the coordination and supervision of a team.

  • Skills in computers data entry and effective use of asset management software

  • Skills in excellent communication and customer service.

  • Skills in utilizing tools equipment and software relevant to the role.

  • Must successfully pass a background check before first day of work and maintain acceptable screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of resource conservation within a parks maintenance context.

  • Knowledge and advanced familiarity with high-visitor urban environments.

  • Hold a bachelors degree certification or completed training in a related field.

  • Advanced experience working for a public agency.

  • Hold and maintain a valid Commercial Drivers License Class B.

  • Relevant certifications including First Aid CPR AED Heavy Equipment Certification Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certified Irrigation Technician.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in landscape maintenance or related field. Four (4) years of experience may substitute for the education requirement only.

  • Minimum of six (6) years experience in horticulture turf management irrigation and general park maintenance.

  • Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience.

  • Experience managing emergency response situations.

  • Experience with budgeting and other administrative functions.

  • Experience working with special events.

  • Experience managing a specialized use facility.

  • Experience with stakeholder engagement.

  • Ability to obtain relevant certifications including First Aid CPR AED Heavy Equipment Certification Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certified Irrigation Technician within one (1) year.

  • Must hold and maintain a valid drivers license.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical and Mental Effort: Engage in physically demanding tasks outdoors across a variety of weather conditions. Works in office and in the may require considerable standing stooping kneeling bending walking lifting climbing reaching and working in cramped positions and cramped locations. Requires lifting dragging and effective communication skills both written and verbal. Adaptability to work under stressful situations and shifting priorities.

  • Work Environment: May be required to work after hours and on the be required to perform snow removal duties as requiredCapable of carrying out physically demanding tasks outdoors even under varying weather flexibility regarding irregular hours weekends evenings holidays and emergencies.
