POSITION TITLE: DOOR ATTENDANT


SALARY RANGE: $22.12 - $32.74 per hour

SALARY GRADE: Maximus Grade: 6


POSITION PURPOSE: This position is responsible for monitoring entry doors for schools reviewing personal identifications and escorting building visitors to their appropriate building locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (examples of): The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Greets and assists students staff parents and visitors entering the building in a professional and courteous manner escorting visitors to and from the main office. Monitors school entrances and exits during school hours. Checks identification and verifies appointments for all visitors. Maintains a visitor log and issues visitor badges using the Scholarchip visitor validation system in accordance with school policy. Collaborates with school security personnel or administration to report and address suspicious activity or unauthorized access. Supports arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure student safety (e.g. managing front door traffic helping with bus or parent pickups). Maintains communication with the front office via radio or phone. Assists in emergency situations (fire drills safety and crisis drill lockdowns etc.) by following established protocols. Provides basic information about school procedures and directs and escorts visitors to the appropriate offices or staff members. Locks or unlocks doors at designated times under direction of school administrators. Performs other duties as directed.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

A Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Social Sciences or a related field with two years of progressively responsible security and/or education experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge skills and abilities. Position requires a valid Connecticut Security Officer Identification Card from the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection which must be maintained through the course of employment. Position requires certification in CPR and First Aid and the ability to successfully complete a background investigation. Candidate must possess or obtain within sixty (60) days of hire a valid Connecticut Drivers License. (Copies of license and certifications must be attached to application).

LOCATION OF VACANCY: BOARD OF EDUCATION Farm Hill Elementary School

HOURS OF WORK: 8:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. (Monday Friday) 35 hours per week with a 30 minute unpaid lunch (Follows School Year Calendar)

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Open to all eligible members of AFSCME Local 1467 who are employees of Middletown Public Schools who are interested in applying for a transfer or demotion Departmental Promotion or District-Wide Promotion must submit an application no later than the date established in this announcement. Applications will be given consideration according to the priorities established in the appropriate Union contract and/or the Districts Personnel Rules. The Union and the BOE agree that eligible members of Local 466 (City) will have the opportunity to apply to BOE positions within this bargaining unit before opening the vacancy up to the public. While the BOE agrees to provide an opportunity for transfer to City employees in Local 466 City employees in Local 466 will not receive preference for any bargaining unit position over Local 1467 employees nor is the BOE obligated to hire any City employees from Local 466 for any Local 1467 position.
