The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as Stationary Engineer at Decatur Correctional Center. This position is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all boiler room and other equipment related to the physical addition this position monitors the daily operation of steam boilers and all related equipment monitors and logs temperatures and pressures on air handling equipment and operates control panel to monitor start stop take temperature etc. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all boiler room and other equipment related to the physical plant.
- Monitors the daily operation of steam boilers and all related equipment.
- Monitors and logs temperatures and pressures on air handling equipment.
- Operates control panel to monitor start stop take temperature etc. on all equipment room machinery.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high-pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
- Prefers completion of an apprentice program necessary to qualify as a journeyman or equivalent.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience following oral and/or written instructions as a journeyman.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience applying strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience practicing mechanical and analytical skills.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience troubleshooting and resolving issues within power plant operations or a similar setting.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience handling hazardous chemicals appropriately in the maintenance system.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with managing records blueprints schematics and/or technical equipment manuals.
- Prefers completion of current OSHA 10 training or higher.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee regardless of position held is prohibited.
- This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to work from heights (on ladders scaffold platforms and lifts) stand for long periods and move heavy equipment materials structures and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 75-100 pounds with assistance.
- Required to utilize digital technology tools platforms and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency productivity and digital transformation efforts within the department.
- This position requires the ability to work at heights including on ladders scaffolding aerial lifts or elevated platforms while adhering to all safety regulations and using appropriate fall protection measures.
