The Resident Advisor Leadposition with DJS provides lead level of work as it relates to providingsupervision and guidance to youth residing in a facility operated by theDepartment of Juvenile Services. The Resident Advisor Lead observes interactsassists youth with everyday life skills and advises them of appropriatealternative behaviors. This position also trains assigns and reviews the workof lower-level DJS Resident Advisors but they do not perform the full range ofsupervisory duties. The Resident Advisor Lead must possess a full certificationfrom MCTC and maintain MCTC certification on an annual basis.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school orpossession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One and one halfyears of experience providing supervision and guidance to youth in a juvenilefacility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth.
Notes:
1. The above educationalrequirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission inaccordance with the Correctional Services Article Section 8-209 AnnotatedCode of Maryland.
2. Candidates may substitutesuccessful completion of six hours of supervisory related training approved byDJS Human Resources for six months of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substituteeducation in criminal justice or the social or behavioral sciences at anaccredited college or university at a rate of 15 credit hours for each sixmonths of the required experience for up to one year of experience.
4. Candidates may substituteU.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer inSocial Services Aid and Assistant classifications or Social Services Aid andAssistant specialty codes in the Social Science Psychology and Welfare fieldof work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preference willbe given to applicants with experience training reviewing and approving thework of employees in a secure residential juvenile facility/setting.
This recruitment is limited tocurrent Maryland Department of Juvenile Services employees.
1. Candidates whohave not already done so must complete and successfully pass the Entrance LevelCorrectional Training Course for DJS staff required for the MarylandCorrectional Training Commission certificate within 365 days of initialappointment or placement in this classification according to Code of MarylandRegulations 12.10.01.03. Employees are required to maintain certification whileemployed.
2. Employees inthis classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of amotor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess amotor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
3. Employees inthis classification that are employed at DJS Youth Centers may be required tocomplete a Board approved medication technician training program and possess avalid Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) certification as a MedicationTechnician.
1. In accordancewith the Correctional Services Article Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code ofMaryland the Maryland Correctional Training Commission shall establish theminimum qualifications for probationary or permanent appointment of aDepartment of Juvenile Services employee in a mandated position. Theserequirements are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations12.10.01.04 general regulations of the Maryland Correctional TrainingCommission and include:
U.S. Citizenshipor Resident Alien status
Must be at least21 years of age
A thoroughbackground check including fingerprinting and drug testing
An oralinterview and
Physical andpsychological examinations.
2. Employees inthis classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance withCode of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
