  • Role and Responsibilities

    1. Lead the Mel-NAP District Safety Team
    2. Oversee and support the individual Mel-NAP building safety teams
    3. Oversee threat assessment training (CSTAG) for select district staff
      1. Ensure each building has a trained CSTAG team
      2. Ensure each CSTAG team has diverse members (administration counseling special education social work general education)
    4. Conduct threat assessments throughout the district
      1. Be notified of threats to the district students staff and community
      2. Conduct CSTAG threat assessments at the district level
      3. Assist in CSTAG threat assessments at the building level
      4. Provide threat assessment results and recommendations to the superintendent
      5. Work with law enforcement to conduct joint threat assessments
      6. Follow prosecuted individuals through the court system
      7. Identify victims of trauma and assist in obtaining trauma treatments
    5. Conduct district safety meetings
    6. Assist with building level safety meetings
    7. Provide the district emergency line and respond to calls
    8. Serve as the districts OK2SAY first contact
    9. Serve as the districts public information officer
      1. Write public statements
      2. Assist administration in writing public statements
      3. Attend training and maintain certification for public information officers
      4. Serve as a liaison to the media
    10. Attend superintendent cabinet meetings
    11. Attend administration meetings
    12. Serve as district liaison to emergency services

    13. Oversee various district safety/crisis concerns (other than threats) at all three phases of safety
      1. Primary Prevention: creating policies and training for safety events
      2. Secondary intervention: address the emergency follow the safety plan mitigate the impact and resolve the emergency as safely and quickly as reasonable
      3. Tertiary Intervention: identify those impacted by the safety event and provide supports including trauma debriefing
      4. Oversee post critical incident debriefing with the safety team emergency services staff and community as necessary
    14. Oversee ALICE training for the district
      1. Advise on online training modules for district staff
      2. Provide in person ALICE training for select district staff
      3. Maintain Certified ALICE Trainer status and updates
      4. Serve as liaison to ALICE/Navigate360
    15. Serve as a liaison to the Lockout Company and assist in the installation training and usage of the SmartBoot System for the district
    16. Assist Building Services and Maintenance in assessing and maintaining the physical security structures of the district and camera systems.
    17. Provide a presence for assistance and deterrence at each of the districts buildings
    18. Attend safety conferences to obtain critical updates and information

      3. North American Active Assailant Conference
    19. Obtain various trainings relevant to the Safety Coordinator position
      1. Trauma diffusion from STARR Commonwealth and School specialist from TLC
      2. Maintain and update multiple various FEMA training such as unified incident command (UIC)
      3. CERT
      4. CBRNE
      5. RESA bus security training
    20. Preview and recommend district trainings modules for district staff from Safe Schools and other sources
      1. Bus driver training
      2. Anti-bullying
      3. Suicide prevention/intervention
      4. Basic threat assessment
    21. Work with the Special Education Director regarding safety incidents and concerns with special education students
    22. Assist in providing victim impact statements to the court when necessary
    23. Review update and maintain the district emergency operations plan (EOP)
      1. Attend trainings
      2. Receive updates and bulletins
      3. Review for best practices
      4. Provide recommendations for additions and changes
      5. Make submissions to central office for review
    24. Review the safety aspects of the district code of conduct policies and procedures for best practices and legal compliance
    25. Assist the district with recommendations regarding liability in safety issues
    26. Work with the school districts attorney during safety events

      1. District cameras

      5. Collection of digital and video evidence
    2. Work with district SROs when applicable
    3. Facilitate community town hall safety meeting for the school district when necessary
    4. Answer emails of safety concern from staff students parents and the community
    5. Assist in running safety drills and providing feedback to front office staff.
    6. Delivering notices of trespass as needed throughout the district.
    7. Work with district truancy officers to communicate with families of chronically absent students.
    8. CPI- Train the trainer
    9. Assist in supporting front office staff when needed.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    1. Bachelors degree in education.
    2. Minimum three (3) years teaching experience.
    3. Teacher leadership experience preferred.
    4. Admin Certificate preferred.
