Your opportunity

The Director Strategic Sourcing - Technology will be a leadership role within the Strategic Sourcing team responsible for managing the Strategic Sourcing team setting negotiation strategy across all categories of spend and leading strategic sourcing and commercial management for Janus Hendersons technology spend with a focus on software SaaS cloud infrastructure cybersecurity telecoms professional technology services AI-enabled solutions and other critical technology vendors. This role will act as a category subject-matter expert and management-level escalation point partnering closely with Technology Legal Finance Information Security Data Privacy Enterprise Vendor Risk Management and business stakeholders to deliver commercial value while supporting strong governance risk management and operational resilience.

The role is intended to help move procurement from a primarily transactional function to a strategic category-led capability. The successful candidate will own sourcing strategies for major technology categories lead complex negotiations improve spend visibility manage renewal pipelines and support the implementation of consistent sourcing and contracting standards across the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set and lead negotiation strategy across all categories of spend ensuring sourcing events and supplier negotiations are commercially disciplined aligned to business priorities and appropriately coordinated with Legal Finance Technology and risk stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute category strategies for technology and IT-related spend including enterprise software SaaS cloud infrastructure cybersecurity networking telecoms technology consulting and emerging AI/ML solutions.
  • Lead end-to-end strategic sourcing activity including market analysis demand planning supplier identification RFIs RFPs RFQs bid evaluation negotiations award recommendations and implementation support.
  • Own and manage a forward-looking renewal pipeline for material IT contracts identifying opportunities to consolidate suppliers reduce duplicate spend renegotiate pricing improve commercial terms and avoid unnecessary auto-renewals.
  • Partner with Technology leadership and business owners to understand technology roadmaps budget priorities service requirements and vendor dependencies.
  • Negotiate complex commercial terms including pricing discounts enterprise licensing models consumption-based pricing service credits benchmarking renewal caps audit rights and termination rights.
  • Manage coach and develop the Strategic Sourcing team including Sourcing Specialists and Sourcing Associates across all categories helping to enhance team performance negotiation capability sourcing discipline stakeholder management and professional development.
  • Work closely with Legal to support consistent contracting positions and appropriate escalation of key legal and regulatory issues including liability data protection confidentiality intellectual property audit outsourcing resilience and exit provisions.
  • Coordinate with Information Security Data Privacy Enterprise Vendor Risk Management Compliance Business Continuity and Architecture teams to ensure technology suppliers are reviewed and onboarded in accordance with applicable procurement risk and governance requirements.
  • Support sourcing and contracting processes for higher-risk engagements including vendors with access to Janus Henderson systems personal data confidential information ICT services AI/ML functionality or critical business processes.
  • Use spend data contract data and supplier performance information to identify savings opportunities risk concentrations and sourcing priorities.
  • Track and report sourcing pipeline savings delivery avoided cost contract risk improvements cycle times and stakeholder outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with key vendors and internal stakeholders acting as a trusted commercial advisor and escalation point for technology sourcing matters.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of procurement playbooks templates vendor management policies procedures governance standards and continuous improvement initiatives that support a scalable global strategic sourcing model.
  • Support oversight and effective use of global procurement sourcing vendor management and contract management systems including helping to drive process consistency data quality reporting discipline and adoption across technology sourcing activity.
  • Prepare and present clear reports dashboards and recommendations on sourcing pipeline negotiation outcomes savings achieved avoided cost vendor risks and contract improvements to Procurement leadership and senior stakeholders.

Must have skills

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Business Finance Technology Law Operations or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in strategic sourcing procurement vendor management commercial negotiation or a related discipline with significant experience in IT or technology categories.
  • Strong understanding of technology sourcing including software licensing SaaS cloud services infrastructure cybersecurity telecoms professional services and technology outsourcing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex sourcing events and negotiations with major technology suppliers.
  • Strong commercial acumen including ability to analyze pricing models license metrics renewal structures total cost of ownership and supplier proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience of evaluating and sourcing AI platforms model providers GenAI tooling inclusive of AI commercial models/usage based pricing/token consumption IP rights.
  • Experience working with Legal Technology Finance Information Security Data Privacy Compliance and Vendor Risk teams in a regulated environment.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to use spend contract and supplier data to develop sourcing strategies and measure outcomes.
  • Excellent communication stakeholder management negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and translate complex commercial issues into clear recommendations.
  • Experience managing coaching and developing procurement sourcing contract or vendor management colleagues including providing practical support on negotiations due diligence stakeholder management performance management and process execution.
  • Highly organized detail-oriented and able to manage multiple sourcing initiatives renewals and stakeholder priorities at the same time.

Nice to have skills

  • Experience in financial services asset management or another regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of third-party risk management operational resilience outsourcing DORA information security data privacy and audit requirements as they apply to technology suppliers.
  • Experience with enterprise software licensing and major technology vendors including Microsoft Salesforce cloud providers market technology platforms cybersecurity providers and managed service providers.
  • Familiarity with procurement contract lifecycle management vendor risk and e-sourcing platforms such as Agiloft Coupa SAP Ariba Jaggaer Ivalua OneTrust or similar tools.
  • Experience developing category plans supplier segmentation models negotiation playbooks and sourcing governance frameworks.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPS CPSM CSCP ITIL Lean Six Sigma or project management qualifications.
  • Experience supporting global sourcing initiatives across the US UK EMEA and APAC.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • The role will have management responsibility for the Strategic Sourcing team including day-to-day oversight coaching workload prioritization performance management input professional development and practical guidance for Sourcing Specialists Sourcing Associates and other team members supporting sourcing activity across all categories.
  • The role may also manage or coordinate cross-functional workstreams within Procurement helping to improve team performance sourcing discipline negotiation capability and stakeholder outcomes.

Compensation information

The base salary range for this position is $180000-$190000. This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different. This role will remain open through August 31 2026.
