Role Overview:

The Director of Transmission & Interconnection provides strategic leadership for all transmission planning and generation interconnection activities supporting the development and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects including Solar Wind and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) throughout North America.

This position is responsible for developing and executing interconnection strategies that minimize project risk optimize project schedules and support successful commercial operation. The Director leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for managing generation interconnection projects from initial site evaluation through Commercial Operation Date (COD) including all phases of the interconnection process with utilities Independent System Operators (ISOs) Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and transmission providers.

The Director partners closely with Development Engineering Construction Asset Management Legal Commercial and Executive Leadership to ensure transmission and interconnection risks are identified early managed effectively and aligned with overall business objectives.

Main responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute transmission and interconnection strategies supporting utility-scale Solar Wind and Battery Energy Storage projects.
  • Lead generation interconnection projects from queue submission through executed Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs) and Commercial Operation.
  • Evaluate transmission system capability available capacity and interconnection opportunities during project origination.
  • Identify transmission constraints and recommend practical mitigation strategies to reduce project risk.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding transmission planning grid reliability and interconnection requirements.
  • Support project siting by evaluating transmission infrastructure substations and available transmission capacity.
  • Lead all aspects of the generator interconnection process across multiple ISOs RTOs utilities and balancing authorities.
  • Manage interconnection requests queue positions study agreements and milestone compliance.
  • Coordinate System Impact Studies Facilities Studies Affected System Studies and Generator Deliverability evaluations.
  • Lead negotiations of Generator Interconnection Agreements (GIAs) engineering agreements and related technical documents.
  • Monitor project schedules to ensure interconnection milestones support targeted Commercial Operation Dates.
  • Coordinate resolution of technical issues affecting project interconnection.

What are we looking for
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related field; Masters degree preferred
  • 10 years in the energy industry including strong exposure to U.S. ISOs and markets and some commercial transmission experience
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering methodologies and techniques for power flow and price modeling and of FERC NERC and other industry agencies standards and regulations (especially FERC 2003-C and FERC 888-890)
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products (Preferred)
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving Strong Communication Customer/Partner Relationships and Technology Expertise (Preferred)
