Job Description
The Director of Nursing is responsible for providing clinical and administrative leadership to the nursing department ensuring high-quality healthcare services regulatory compliance and positive health outcomes for the individuals we support. This role oversees nursing staff develops clinical programs and serves as a key partner to agency leadership in advancing healthcare initiatives.
- Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision of nursing staff including hiring training coaching scheduling and performance management.
- Oversee nursing services and ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations agency policies and best practices.
- Coordinate program intakes and assess individual medical needs.
- Develop and oversee nursing care plans and health-related supports.
- Ensure coordination of medical services with physicians pharmacies therapists and other healthcare providers.
- Monitor medical documentation and conduct audits to ensure regulatory compliance and quality standards.
- Develop implement and maintain healthcare-related policies procedures and protocols.
- Lead and oversee medical training programs including medication administration CPR First Aid and other required certifications.
- Participate in and coordinate the nursing on-call system.
- Investigate medication errors incidents and accidents and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Conduct nursing meetings and provide ongoing education and guidance to staff.
- Support infection prevention efforts and identify and mitigate risks related to communicable diseases.
- Partner with agency leadership to continuously improve healthcare systems employee engagement and service quality.

- Valid drivers license meeting agency insurance requirements.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the New York State Department of Education.
- Minimum of four (4) years of nursing experience including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Knowledge of OPWDD regulations and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
