PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Director of Facilities under the supervision of the Executive Director of Facilities Planning is responsible for all phases of new construction from preliminary planning to finalpunch list.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Architecture
  • A Registered Engineer or Architect in the State of Texas
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Excellent communication and collaborations skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to interpret complex oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient skills with the use of personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases as well as word processing
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and work under deadlines
  • Ability to present policy information in a confident articulate and effective manner to government business and community leaders
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with student families and the community who represent cultures that are diverse in terms of race class ethnicity sexual orientation and other characteristics in order to build an effective collaboration of school and community
  • Strong writing skills including proper use of spelling grammar and punctuation

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in planning and construction techniques structural mechanical and/or electrical engineering

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Develops and implements all phases of new construction long-range planning programmingrenovationand maintenance projects from preliminary planning to project closeout in order to accommodate the desired educational program goals for the district
  • Communicates effectively with school campus administrators and educators to identify project scopes in conjunction with district goals
  • Develops long-range and short-range planning for existing and new facilities of the school district
  • Schedules coordinates and directs construction projects in support of the mission of the school district
  • Promotes high expectation levels for staff and employee performance evaluates jobperformance and develops training options
  • Coordinates the planning design and construction of district facilities repairs renovationand/orthe creation of new facilities
  • Provides architectural and engineering advice and direction on all construction activities
  • Assists purchasing manager with the development and review of bid specifications relating to new construction
  • Prepares plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvements
  • Maintains current knowledge of adopted building codes for each city within district boundaries and is familiar with code requirements as set by TDLR for the elimination of architectural barriers
  • Assists in the preparation ofbudget estimates for renovation and/or new construction
  • Performs productcolor selections for construction projects
  • Establishes specifications defining the quality of materials and workmanship in the project
  • Demonstrates support for achieving curricular and instructional goals of the student management system related to spaceamenitiesand equipment requirements
  • Actively seeks out professional development activities designed to improve performance
  • Strives to improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities
  • Conducts oneself in a professional and ethical manner
  • Articulates to the community the schools mission by helping create and implement policies that guidepublic planningdesignand construction
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision and evaluation of District personnel assigned to facilities planning department and temporary personnel hired due to bond related projects
