Position: Director Fleet Maintenance & Asset Management

Position Reports to: VP Operations

Location: USA

Position Summary:

The Director Fleet Maintenance and Asset Management is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Companys owned leased and rented fleet including hydrovac trucks commercial vehicles trailers and related equipment.

This role is accountable for fleet reliability availability maintenance compliance lifecycle planning vendor performance maintenance records and cost control. The Director Fleet Maintenance and Asset Management ensures equipment is safe properly maintained available for revenue-producing work and managed in a financially responsible manner throughout its useful life.

The position works closely with Operations to anticipate fleet needs minimize downtime support growth and ensure the business has the right equipment available in the right locations. This individual will maintain a strong understanding of fleet condition repair history utilization remaining useful life and total cost of ownership to make informed recommendations regarding repair rebuild replacement rental redeployment or disposal.

The Director Fleet Maintenance and Asset Managementwill also build and maintain strategic relationships with truck manufacturers equipment providers repair vendors rental companies and parts suppliers. As the fleet maintenance function grows this role will assume direct oversight of mechanics technicians shop operations and other fleet maintenance personnel.

Essential Functions:

Fleet Management & Maintenance Operations

  • Develop and manage fleet maintenance and asset management programs.
  • Monitor fleet condition utilization maintenance history and total cost of ownership.
  • Recommend repair replacement rental redeployment or disposal of assets.
  • Develop fleet replacement and capital expenditure plans.
  • Oversee preventive predictive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Ensure inspections repairs and maintenance activities are completed safely and on schedule.
  • Reduce equipment downtime and improve fleet reliability.
  • Standardize maintenance procedures and repair practices across locations.
  • Partner with Operations to ensure fleet availability meets business demands.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and communicate equipment status.
  • Develop contingency plans for equipment failures and shortages.
  • Manage relationships with manufacturers dealerships repair facilities rental providers and parts suppliers.
  • Negotiate service agreements and monitor vendor performance.
  • Coordinate warranty claims recalls and supplier support activities.
  • Maintain accurate fleet maintenance records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT FMCSA OSHA manufacturer and company requirements.
  • Conduct audits and address maintenance-related compliance risks.

Financial Management

  • Manage fleet maintenance budgets and operating expenses.
  • Track maintenance costs rental expenses and lifecycle costs.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining safety and reliability.
  • Support capital planning and annual budgeting processes.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Track and report key fleet performance metrics including uptime downtime maintenance compliance and repair costs.
  • Use fleet data to identify trends and improve operational performance.
  • Develop and maintain fleet maintenance policies procedures and standards.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership for maintenance personnel as the function grows.
  • Support hiring training performance management and workforce development.
  • Promote a culture of safety accountability and continuous improvement.

Education & Experience:

Required

  • 7 years of fleet maintenance and/or heavy equipment asset management experience.
  • Experience with maintenance management of commercial vehicles heavy equipment or specialized fleets
  • Experience in FCSMA and DOT regulations and requirements.
  • Experience managing vendors maintenance programs and fleet lifecycle planning.

Preferred

  • Supervisory experience within a maintenance or fleet department.
  • High volume equipment management experience.
  • Multi-state asset management experience.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance reliability and asset management.
  • Strong analytical financial and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate repair-versus-replacement decisions.
  • Effective communication and vendor management skills.
  • Proficiency with fleet management systems telematics and Microsoft Office.
  • Management of budget and cost effectiveness

Working Conditions

  • Ability to regularly travel to operating locations maintenance facilities and vendor sites.
  • Ability to inspect trucks trailers and heavy equipment in shop and field environments.
  • Ability to work around moving vehicles heavy equipment noise dust and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally climb bend kneel and access equipment components during inspections.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 2550 pounds.
  • Ability to sit stand walk and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to maintain a valid drivers license and operate company vehicles as required.
