Job Description:

Madison College with its main campus in Madison Wisconsin is seeking a Director Facilities Engineering and Maintenance. This position provides leadership and oversight of the Districts facilities engineering and maintenance functions including utilities management and sustainability initiatives. Madison College has eight locations across South Central Wisconsin with over half of its approximately 2 million square feet concentrated in Madison. The Director is responsible for ensuring the reliability safety efficiency and long-term stewardship of campus facilities and building systems including mechanical electrical plumbing fire protection and related infrastructure.

This position provides technical expertise and guidance on complex building system issues oversees District-wide infrastructure projects and ensures compliance with applicable building code regulatory requirements and safety standards. The Director also leads institutional sustainability initiatives develops long-range strategies to improve environmental performance manages departmental budgets and supervises maintenance personnel to support the Colleges mission and strategic efforts. Success in this role is demonstrated through reliable and efficient building operations effective capital planning and project execution strong regulatory compliance responsible financial and environmental stewardship progress towards sustainability goals continuous improvement of campus infrastructure and the successful leadership and development of facilities personnel.

This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President Finance & Administration and is a valued member of the leadership team. This team is dedicated to supporting the Colleges mission and students.

Position Details

  • Schedule: This is a full-time salaried position with core hours typically MondayFriday 8:00 a.m.4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Depending on operational needs this position may work remotely up to two days per week with three days on site typically at the Truax Campus. Remote work must be approved and options are subject to change in accordance with Madison College policy.

Accountabilities:

  • Leads and coordinates facilities and infrastructure projects from planning through completion working with internal stakeholders consultants contractors and other partners to ensure projects are delivered safely efficiently and in accordance with approved scope schedule budget and quality standards.

  • Provides leadership supervision and development of assigned staff to achieve institutional objectives and operational excellence. This includes effective human resources practices such as inclusive hiring performance management employee development and staff support.

  • Serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on facilities planning infrastructure investments operational risk management deferred maintenance and sustainability initiatives.

  • Leads the design and retrofit of building systems for campus facilities to ensure that new and existing building systems meet current standards efficiency requirements and institutional needs while improving the functionality reliability and sustainability of campus facilities.

  • Oversees facilities asset management including preventive maintenance programs strategic use of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and lifecycle renewal planning.

  • Leads campus sustainability and energy management initiatives identifying opportunities to help the College meet its carbon reduction targets reduce utility consumption and support institutional sustainability goals.

  • Provides technical expertise to resolve building system issues and recommends and implements solutions to maintain the reliability safety and performance of campus infrastructure including identifying and addressing potential system failures.

  • Oversees compliance with applicable building codes environmental regulations insurance requirements OSHA standards and other regulatory obligations to ensure a safe compliant and well-maintained campus environment.

  • Develops manages and monitors over $4 million in operational and $3 million in capital budgets annually for facilities operations infrastructure projects and equipment replacement to ensure responsible financial management and long-term sustainability of institutional resources.

  • Provides leadership and coordination during facilities-related emergencies utility disruptions and critical infrastructure incidents and engages in institution-wide emergency preparedness risk management and continuity planning.

  • Creates an inclusive equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued respected and empowered to reach their full potential.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise staff in a collaborative team-based environment to achieve institutional objectives.

  • Ability to make sound operational management and financial decisions that support institutional goals budget accountabilities and an effective work unit.

  • Knowledge of facility management maintenance and engineering operations

  • Knowledge of public procurement budgeting and contract management.

  • Knowledge of building systems including HVAC electrical plumbing and fire safety.

  • Skill in developing and analyzing facility data such as construction plans and specifications.

  • Skill in project management and maintenance systems including coordinating maintenance work across multiple locations.

  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.

  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or Associates degree AND equivalent additional relevant work experience.

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant progressive professional work experience.

  • Leadership and/or managerial experience.

  • Must have a valid drivers license and a driving record that meets College insurance requirements for hire and continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional license or certification such as Professional Engineer (PE) license Designer of Engineering Systems license or Certified Educational Facilities Professional
