Job Summary

About Us

Madison Energy Infrastructure is hiring a Director of Battery Asset Management to build and run the operating platform behind our national distributed battery have 80 MW of batteries operating today across 30 sites and 5 states expect that fleet to triple next year and double the following year with $2 billion of battery deployment ahead of goal is simple: get the operating system right now while the fleet is still manageable so that it works when at scale.

About You

Youve spent years elbow-deep in battery systems you can read a three-line diagram without help and you know an OEMs manual well enough to push back on their own engineers. Youve managed contracts and youve managed people and youre just as comfortable owning a preventative maintenance program as you are picking up the phone when a site goes down. Youd rather build something from scratch than inherit someone elses system and you want to own the numbers that come with that.

Key Responsibilities

In year one expect to be a player-coach: youll manage the Battery Asset Manager but youll also be hands-on yourself on the phone with OEMs troubleshooting failures remotely reviewing alarms negotiating O&M agreements visiting sites escalating warranty claims and making sure batteries dispatch when theyre supposed to. That hands-on work is also how youll build the operating system this role exists to create you will own:

  • Fleet Performance-Own fleet performance against target (97% monthly availability <1% missed dispatch 100% preventative maintenance compliance 7-day MTTR on corrective issues zero warranty violations no OEM escalation delay beyond 72 hours). Report against these numbers and drive resolution when a site is down.
  • Monitoring and reporting - Working with our Asset Management Analytics team to build the battery monitoring platform: what gets monitored how data flows alarm thresholds escalation logic dashboards and reporting cadence.
  • O&M and long-term service agreements - Negotiating and administering them which means understanding scope pricing response times notification requirements technical support spare parts performance guarantees and what is negotiable. You should know the OEMs the O&M companies and what things should cost and be comfortable holding contractors accountable when performance is not acceptable.
  • Fire safety and code compliance - The operating side of the program including fire panels suppression systems inspection programs AHJ requirements emergency response procedures and vendor compliance.
  • Team - You will initially manage one Battery Asset Manager and build the team around it as the fleet grows. You should have managed people before but you should not be looking for a role where management means staying away from the equipment.
  • Commercial fluency - A working understanding of ownership structures project finance IRR and discounted cash flow loans offtake agreements land leases tax documents and the broader OpCo structure. You do not need to be the finance team but you do need to understand how an operating decision eventually turns into money.
What You Bring

The right person will probably have:

  • 5 years of technical experience with distributed generation battery systems
  • Meaningful hands on troubleshooting experience
  • Distributed generation battery experience specifically. Utility scale only experience is not a match for this role
  • 4 years of battery market or commercial operations experience including exposure to market participation capacity obligations settlement or battery value stacks
  • Experience negotiating or administering O&M agreements or LTSAs
  • Experience reviewing preventative and corrective maintenance reports and challenging contractor conclusions
  • Strong familiarity with OEM manuals specifications warranties and operating requirements
  • Management experience with at least one direct report
  • Budget ownership experience
  • Working knowledge of battery fire safety and applicable codes
  • Experience with operational reporting tools such as Power BI
  • The ability to read and understand electrical drawings including three line diagrams
  • Battery and inverter manufacturer certifications are a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial experience is also a plus. We value people who have had to build something own a metric fix problems without a playbook and operate with urgency.

Benefits

  • PTO and company holidays
  • Medical dental vision
  • Employer-paid short-term disability long-term disability life insurance
  • 401(k) and company match
  • Professional development stipend
