Position description: Two Assistant General Manager positions each own day-to-day execution at one of the divisions two maintenance shops 19th Street or the Rental Car Center (RCC). The AGM runs the shop across all three shifts directing lead technicians and the technician workforce (12 technicians at 19th Street; 14 at RCC) and is accountable for that shops PM production down-bus count road-call response and repair quality. The AGM is the primary escalation point for service disruptions affecting bus availability and ensures planned schedules match actual shop output every day.

General responsibilities

  • Direct all shop operations across three shifts: technician assignments shift transitions PM line scheduling and priority repair sequencing to protect morning pull-out.
  • Supervise lead technicians and hold each shift accountable for PM compliance down-bus count safety performance and work order accuracy in Fleetio.
  • Manage staffing coverage attendance overtime vacation planning and call-off response so required wrench-turning hours are met without service degradation.
  • Serve as first escalation for road calls breakdowns and shop disruptions; coordinate wrecker/towing dispatch and field response using division service trucks and vans.
  • Drive repair quality: enforce root-cause repair standards over patch-and-return fixes review comebacks and repeat repairs with the Training/QA Manager and quality-check completed work.
  • Partner with the Parts Manager and fleet/parts clerks to keep parts support aligned to shop production; flag min/max gaps before they idle a bay.
  • Ensure DOT/TxDMV inspection currency PM cycle adherence (PMA/PMI) and complete accurate service documentation for airport and internal audits.
  • Enforce shop safety: lockout/tagout lift operations HV/EV safety protocols CNG handling and housekeeping standards.
  • Develop technicians: coach C-to-B-to-A progression identify certification candidates and build the internal lead pipeline.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success supervising multi-shift maintenance operations for transit buses or comparable heavy fleets.
  • Hands-on technical fluency across diesel CNG gasoline and EV/HV platforms; able to diagnose alongside technicians and make repair-priority calls.
  • Experience with VMS work-order systems (Fleetio preferred) and telematics (Samsara or comparable).
  • Strong scheduling and workforce management skills in a 24/7 environment; calm decisive under pull-out pressure.
  • Working knowledge of DOT/TxDMV inspection requirements and OSHA shop safety.
  • Valid U.S. drivers license; must pass a federal background check and DFW airport badging requirements. Class B CDL with passenger endorsement (or ability to obtain within 90 days company paid) preferred.

Education and experience

  • 7 years of fleet or transit maintenance experience including 3 years supervising technicians (shop foreman maintenance supervisor or shop manager).
  • ASE certifications required: two or more of H-series (Transit Bus) or T-series (Medium/Heavy Truck); ASE Master (H or T) preferred.
  • Cummins ISB engine and Allison transmission experience preferred; EV high-voltage and/or CNG fuel system certification a strong plus.

Associates or technical

Physical Demands:

  • Able to work in the elements heat wind snow rain etc.
  • Ability to lift push and pull at least 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Ability to stand walk and run for extended periods of time.
  • Ability bend stoop squat and lift frequently throughout a shift.
