Job Summary

Design Engineer ModularThe Design Engineer plays a critical role in transforming virtual design concepts into fully engineered constructable solutions. This position leads preconstruction design engineering analysis and BIM coordination while ensuring accuracy constructability and code compliance across part of Gaylor Electrics Production Innovation Center this role also supports the design and continuous improvement of modular electric room skid solutionsbridging engineering manufacturing and field operations. The Design Engineer drives fabrication-ready design collaborates with production teams and integrates real-world feedback into scalable repeatable solutions.A successful candidate brings strong technical expertise a proactive mindset and the ability to lead design efforts while collaborating across disciplines in a fast-paced ResponsibilitiesDesign Engineering & DocumentationLead projects through preconstruction design engineering and coordination phasesDevelop and review design coordination and installation drawings aligned with Gaylor Electric Best PracticesProduce fabrication-ready documentation including layouts one-line diagrams wiring diagrams equipment placement and system detailsPerform and evaluate electrical calculations (load voltage drop short circuit lighting etc.)Ensure all designs are constructable code-compliant and aligned with project specificationsInterpret and develop drawings for power lighting systems underground site and temporary powerBIM Modeling & CoordinationDevelop and manage 3D models using Revit and BIM toolsLead and participate in BIM coordination meetings with architects engineers and trade partnersIdentify and resolve spatial constructability and installation challenges through 3D coordinationReview BIM Execution Plans specifications and jurisdictional requirements for complianceProduction & Manufacturing IntegrationSupport the design and development of modular electric room skid solutionsPartner with manufacturing teams to clarify design intent and resolve drawing-related questions in real timeProvide timely updates and revisions to support efficient production workflowsParticipate in design reviews with engineering project management and production teamsEnsure designs are optimized for manufacturability assembly and field installationContinuous Improvement & StandardizationCollect and incorporate feedback from production and field teams to improve design efficiency and constructabilityDrive continuous improvement of skid designs through lessons learned and design optimizationSupport development of standardized templates component libraries and repeatable configurationsImplement and refine best practices to improve quality consistency and cycle timeProject & Stakeholder SupportProvide design and BIM support to operations project management estimating and field teamsCoordinate with procurement and vendors to ensure equipment and design alignmentInterface with clients consultants and partners to resolve technical challengesCommunicate design changes clearly and proactively across all stakeholdersLeadership & DevelopmentMentor and support Virtual Design team membersContribute to the development of innovative workflows and design best practicesMaintain and expand technical knowledge of electrical systems codes and construction methodsEnsure quality and productivity of deliverables within required timelinesRequired QualificationsExperience & Technical Skills2 years of experience in a VDC design engineering or related roleStrong proficiency in Revit and experience with BIM coordinationExperience with Autodesk tools (Revit Navisworks BIM 360 Autodesk Construction Cloud/Forma)Ability to develop and interpret electrical drawings one-line diagrams and panel schedulesStrong understanding of electrical systems installation practices and constructabilityAbility to interpret engineering drawings schematics and technical specificationsCode & Industry KnowledgeWorking knowledge of NECFamiliarity with IBC IECC and life safety codesExperience producing code-compliant buildable designsCore CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and technical accuracyEffective communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environmentProactive solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvementPreferred Qualifications5 years of electrical design or construction experienceExperience in modular construction prefabrication or skid-based system designFamiliarity with electrical room layouts switchgear MCCs and related equipmentBackground as an MEP Coordinator Superintendent or field leader with an electrical contractorKnowledge of manufacturing or fabrication workflowsExperience with revision control systems (PDM/PLM tools)Active Journeymans License (where applicable)EducationHigh School Diploma or GED requiredBachelors degree in Construction Management Engineering or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)Revit Certification or equivalent professional experience preferredMeasures of SuccessDelivery of high-quality accurate and constructable design documentsSuccessful completion of project and production milestones on time and within scopeEfficient coordination across engineering production and field teamsContinuous improvement of modular skid design and production efficiencyPositive feedback from internal stakeholders project teams and clients
