Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Team Leader for their Day & Employment Division. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals abilities provide choice driven supports and advocate alongside people to live and work in our aspire to build a community that promotes supports and embraces people of all abilities. Team Leaders are responsible for coordinating and supervising the delivery of services with JCDS.
The first review of candidates will be on Friday September 4 2026. Applications submitted after the review date will be continuously reviewed until the position is filled.
Responsibilities include:
- Leads the development of a High Performing Organization through active demonstration of the countys Pillars of Performance encouraging leadership and empowerment at all levels of the organization; dedicates QII activities for self and staff; actively mentors coaches and collaborates with employees to enhance the county mission and vision keeping in mind the common goal of leaving our community better than we found it.
- Provides leadership to Direct Support Professionals and Sr. Direct Support Professionals in the area of Person Centered Planning and Positive Behavior Supports; provides training to staff on the development and implementation of Person Centered Plans and Behavior Support Plans; develops goals that are individualized and reflect the abilities and preferences of those supported; provides opportunities to and encourage those supported to be active participants throughout the Person Centered planning process; reviews plans periodically to ensure the quality of goals supports and scenarios and modifies with addendums; reviews data collection processes to ensure that data is being tracked in an accurate and timely manner; attends Person Centered Support Plans BASIS and Transition Meetings; interacts and communicates with families Guardians Case Managers and others to ensure information is shared.
- Provides quality assurance for service delivery; conducts team meetings; monitors requests (maintenance transportation IT AT etc.) and completes follow up; ensures health and safety remains a priority for the program; monitors required training to ensure that all staff remain current; approaches potential issues in a proactive manner that minimizes risks such as medical errors ANE injuries and health issues; performs site visits; completes site visit checklists ensure budgetary reponsibility of grocery budgets and petty cash track planned/unplanned leave; ensures on call responsibilities 24 hours /7 days a week.
- Engages in Program Development and Strategic Program Services; continuously reviews the services provided in the specific program area(s) of responsibility to ensure that they are consistent with best practices in the field and meet all regulatory and accreditation requirements; provides leadership to develop staff expertise within the program area(s); collaborates with other organizations within the local community and across the state on providing quality services to adults with I/DD; promotes community integration by collaborating with other organizations that provide opportunities to interact and engage with adults without I/DD; consistently seeks out ideas and feedback from the team; sets high expectations that promotes continuous improvement and builds on the strengths of each employee.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Five (5) years of human services or relevant experience required.
- Must be able to successfully complete JCDS training (Medication Administration CPR First Aid MANDT ANE etc.) in order to maintain required certifications.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- A Bachelors degree in human services or a related field is preferred.
- Three (3) years experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities or other vulnerable population and one (1) year leading directing supervising or coordinating work of others is preferred.
- Experience can substitute for education and education can substitute for experience.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
- Candidate must be able to successfully complete criminal and motor vehicle background screenings which includes KDADS required screenings and registry checks.
- This position will require the use of a personal vehicle to transport clients. A valid drivers license and good driving record are required.
