Custodian positions work in public spaces classrooms labs and offices of assigned buildings on the University campus. Custodians are working on cleaning these rooms/areas with providing professional housekeeping duties to provide building tenants with clean and inviting work environments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Sweeps mops polishes and strips floors in rooms and halls.
  • Dusts and/or polishes furniture blinds and equipment.
  • Vacuums spot cleans and/or extracts carpets and furniture using commercial vacuum cleaners and extraction equipment.
  • Assures all safety precautions are followed in the workplace.
  • Cleans restrooms and fills dispensaries. This includes emptying trash cans restocking of paper towels toilet paper and soap.
  • Mopping of bathroom floors using housekeeping chemicals.
  • Reports malfunctions of bathroom fixtures light fixtures and/or damages to room and hall furnishings to Supervisor. May also replace light bulbs.
  • Initiates work orders for repair/maintenance.
  • Moves furniture equipment or fixtures as required.
  • Stocks area with appropriate supplies.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and ability to properly use custodial equipment.
  • Ability to use machinery such as vacuums floor buffers and pressure washers.
  • Communicates effectively in a professional manner.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand walk bend climb stairs and lift 50 lbs.
