Job Summary

You will serve as a Custodial Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) at Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Brecksville OH.

This is a Permanent Competitive Full-time Career-Seasonal appointment.

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as permanent appointments but do not provide work on a year-round basis.

Duties

At the full performance level (WG-04) the major duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Operate motor vehicles up to 10000-pound capacity including 2- or 4-wheel drive pickups.
Receive and complete oral received work assignments.
Work on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs wash walls replace blinds ceiling fixtures room partitions etc.
Read signs and labels of cleaning products and follow cleaning chemical directions.
Lift 50 lbs daily and repetitively.

You are required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.
As a condition of employment for accepting this position you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest meet the organization goals and mission of the agency and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the determining if your employment advances the public interest the agency will consider:

your performance and conduct;
the needs and interests of the agency;
whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and

Under applicable law the employment of an individual serving a probationary period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies in writing that the individuals employment should continue and that their appointment should be the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification in writing that your continued employment advances the public interest.

To qualify for this position you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)

Dexterity and Safety
Ability to Interpret Instructions Specifications etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)
Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment

Your resume must clearly show that you are able to perform laborer and custodial/janitorial tasks under general supervision subject to inspection for compliance with work and safety standards and policies including:

Ability to operate trucks weighing up to 10000 pounds;
Perform work providing laboring assistance cleaning restrooms windows vacuuming carpets floors emptying trash and recyclables;
Operate power equipment such as floor scrubbers floor buffers and floor strippers.

Career-Seasonal: These are appointments that are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments but do not provide work on a year-round basis. When operational needs and/or funds are not available the employee will be placed in non-pay status. Placement in non-pay status will not be on a sporadic occasional or unplanned basis.
Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.
You will work approximately 25 pay periods and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
Non-pay status is anticipated to be one of the following periods: JAN 10-23 2027 OR Jan 24-Feb 06 2027 OR Feb 07-20 2027.

Physical Demands: The work performed requires moderately heavy physical effort and involves lifting and moving objects over 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 50 pounds. Custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment carry and set up ladders and scaffolding and work from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently they must lift and move objects weighing about 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat light and ventilation. The incumbent is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds.
