TITLE: Custodial Substitute
LOCATION: Bennett School District Custodial Department
REPORTS TO: Director of Custodial Services
SUMMARY:
Bennett School District seeking a candidate for temporary custodial support to maintain clean safe and orderly facilities. Performs routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping mopping vacuuming disinfecting surfaces cleaning restrooms and removing trash. Follows established procedures and safety guidelines while adapting to different work sites and schedules. Requires reliability attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Displays a thorough knowledge of the position.
- Monitors and adjusts activities to meet district and position needs.
- Communicates effectively.
- Maximizes time on task.
- Generates a sense of enthusiasm.
- Keeps buildings and premises including sidewalks driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Shovels doors and steps far enough so maintenance can finish removing snow away from buildings.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Raises the United States flag at or before 8 a.m. on each school day and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.
- Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
- Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Scrubs hoses down and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish if needed.
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Cleans all chalkboards at least once a week.
- Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of.
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the custodial director.
- Reports immediately to the Custodial Director or building principal any damage to school property.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance is required by the Custodial Director.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment. Orders supplies so that they may be delivered in a timely manner so they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his/her duties.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance upkeep and repair.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash rubbish and waste.
- Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to insure their safe condition.
- Maintains equipment and reports any damage or repair work needed to the Custodial Director.
- Other duties as may be assigned.

SALARY: Starting at $18.00/hour Negotiable based on experience.
