Cross Connection Control-FOG Technician

The City of Mount Airy is seeking a Cross Connection Control/Fats Oils and Grease (FOG) Technician for the Utilities Maintenance Division of Public Works. A person in this position Performs skilled work insuring cross-connections are eliminated and backflow prevention is in place for the citys water system. Also is responsible for inspecting educating and providing excellent customer service to citizens and food service establishments in an effort to reduce fats oils and grease (FOG) and other contaminants in the City of Mount Airy wastewater collection system. Employee administers the programs using state codes a detailed filing system public education and continuing education. Work involves administering the policy and testing the devices required. The employee may also operate automotive or construction equipment associated with a particular work activity. The employee is subject to working in both inside and outside environments in extreme hot and cold weather and exposure to various hazards such as working around heavy traffic loud noises vibration moving mechanical parts electrical current chemicals fumes odors dusts mists gases poor ventilation and oils. Work also requires on-call and call-back duties. Work is performed under supervision of the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor and is reviewed by random project inspections to evaluate work in progress and provide specific directions as required.

This person will also back-up the utilities maintenance crews as needed and is required to operate a City vehicle on a regular basis.

Desirable Education and Experience

Completion of high school and considerable experience in skilled maintenance and construction workpreferably in publicutilitiesincludingexperiencewith theoperation of heavy constructionequipment;oranequivalentcombination of training and experience.
