Corrosion Control Assessor (Navy)

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an experienced Corrosion Control Assessor with U.S. Navy shipboard experience to provide full-time support at the South-West Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) in San Diego CA.

Typical Responsibilities: The candidates responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) performing or supporting the following actions:

• Support Tanks & Voids and Structural Corrosion/Coating inspections.
• Verify tanks voids and spaces are gas free and tagged out for entry prior to entering tank/space for assessment.
• Document the condition of the tank in accordance with G1N5 or G1N6 MRC and CCAMM.
• Document all discrepancies in tanks and ships structure by photographing with government equipment in accordance with command photographic and security requirements.
• Enter assessment results in CADET and internal Department tracking spreadsheets/matrices.
• Generate required AWR/2-Kilos in CADET.
• Upload photographs into CCIMS using the CCIMS upload utility.
• Provide written assessment reports with required supporting documents and recommendations per Branch assessment report format mandated by JFMM.
• Provide objective evidences per CCAMM or supporting documents as OQE to customer or NAVSEA TWH as mandated for risk mitigation.
• Provide work status update charges daily housekeeping on assigned job and timekeeping in TAAS-Info.
• Enter and update daily all high visibility Availability or Structural issues/concerns on reports.
• Use the following equipment in performance of this tasking: laser distance meters flashlights chipping hammers scrapers pit gauge metal clipboard.

Location:Onsite at the South-West Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) in San Diego CA.

Typical Physical Activity:Mix of desk/computer work in an office environment and visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: repetitive motion traversing shipboard environments (e.g. confined spaces ladders hatches) or vision.

Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated.

Typical Pay Range:The anticipated pay for this position in the identified location(s) is $32.53/hour. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education qualifications and experience. This position is covered under the Service Contract Act (SCA) and will additionally receive $5.09/hour in health and welfare benefits.

Existing SECRET Security Clearance Required: This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. A candidate without a clearance but with highly relevant experience may be considered but still must obtain a clearance prior to hire.


Typical Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• High school diploma/GED equivalent.
• A minimum five (5) years (accumulated within the last seven (7) years) of demonstrated specialized hands-on experience and proof of expertise in the prevention and control of corrosion and in hull topside interior and deck surface coating systems.
• Must be proficient using general and special purpose test equipment to perform organizational level maintenance.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs visit processes and reporting methods for visits.
• Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.
• Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Demonstrate an ability to interpret blueprints technical manuals and repair standards and the ability to troubleshoot analyze and provide distance support.

Additional Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field.
• Level 1 Corrosion Certification
• Completed S-CAT - Shipboard Corrosion Assessment Training by NACE

Preferred Certifications/Trainings or ability to obtain within 180 days of hire:

• SYCP - Ship Yard Competent person
• AMPP Coating Inspector Program (CIP) / CIP Level 1 Certification
• AMPP Coating Inspector Program (CIP) / CIP Level 2 Certification
• NACE Cathodic Protection (CP1) Training
• NBPI Coating Training
• AMPP Thermal Spray Inspection Specialty
• Basic UT Measurement Certification per NSTM 100 100-2.5
• Fall Protection Hands-On and Practical Demonstrations Training
• PCMS Level 1 Maintainer and Lever 2 Supervisor Certification
