Job Summary
The main purpose of thisposition is to provide high quality developmentallyappropriate comprehensive pediatric care to adolescent youth who areresiding at DJS facilities. This position provides youth withpreventative acute chronic and specialty health care services toprotect promote and advance their overall health and prepare them forsuccess upon return to the community.
Job Duties:
Provision of on-sitehealthcare: Complete history & physical examinations provide acute& chronic healthcare & manage youth with medical conditions such asdiabetes seizure disorder sickle cell heart disease opioid usedisorder orthopedic injuries infectious diseases physical disabilitiesetc. Admit youth to the infirmary and refer to the ER and specialty careas needed. Write orders and document in the medical chart.
Review Medical Records: Reviewand sign-off on immunization records past medical records referralreports results of laboratory testing diagnostic imaging and other studies(e.g. EEGs EKGs) admission nursing assessments 30 day reviewsand discharge summaries. Assist with writing discharge summaries asneeded. Write orders update the problem list and provide care based onreview of medical records.
Meetings consultations anddiscussion with other healthcare providers: Attend weekly Special Needsmeetings as able discuss cases with specialists and ER asneeded collaborate with the DJS interdisciplinary team including nursingand behavioral health staff psychiatric providers dentist optometristdietitian physical therapist residential & case management staffpharmacist and other physicians and nurse practitioners.
Communication with parents orguardian: As needed call parents/guardians to obtain or share medicalinformation about youth.
On-call services: Be availableby cell phone and email to nursing staff in case needed to clarify on availability assist in provision of 24/7 on-call medical servicesby telephone for youth at DJS facilities.
Education: A Doctorate a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

2. Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
