Job Summary

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Computer Support Specialist. Provides technical assistance in support of software hardware and networking tools used by employees of the Montana Department of Transportation. Responsible for developing training materials and assists with formal technical and computer training both in the classroom and one-on-one for MDT employees. Assist with scheduling conducting and coordinating computer software hardware installation and configuration; perform setup procedures for new equipment and installs customize and ensure accurate operation of software packages and hardware on personal computers; customize and troubleshoot applications when problems occur and ensure compliance with MDT network standards. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities. Report to the Customer Support Supervisor and does not supervise others.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in computer science information systems or a related field. *OR 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.

1 year of experience in computer systems administration or information technology support experience including hardware and software troubleshooting hardware deployment software installation configuration and management.

Alternative combinations of related experience or education may be considered.

This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Ability to troubleshoot complex problems while providing customer service to employees.

Knowledge of computer operating systems (such as Microsoft Windows) and principles of computer networking.

Ability to assist employees with personal computers printers scanners and other computer peripherals.

Other Information

The successful candidate must pass a finger-print background investigation as a condition of employment.
