General Purpose

Under the direction of the school principal the Community School Coordinator (CSC) will facilitate coordinate and oversee the support needs of students and families at the school site. They (CSC) will collaborate with community school partners (United Way of Northern Utah Boys & Girls Club and other community partners) to best meet the academic needs of students through high quality programming (before during and after school) family engagement and community resources. The CSC will work closely with various stakeholders including school administrators teachers community organizations and families coordinating and supporting wrap-around services. This role requires a combination of problem solving skills administrative skills community outreach program development and partnership building. It requires excellent communication both verbal and written listening and organizational funding allows there is an opportunity for additional hours in the summer to support summer programming.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Works in close collaboration with the principal and building leadership team to implement strategies and optimize resources to achieve specific academic outcomes for children as well as outcomes identified in the School Improvement Plan of the school and its partners.
  • Facilitates school-family-community collaborative initiative that mobilizes school and community learning support activities based on the needs of student families and community members with school administration staff and district parent and family engagement supervisor.
  • Facilitates communication and relationship building with community building partners key stakeholdersand volunteers.
  • Serves as a key information contact for programs partnership and resources serving students and families within the school community.
  • Coordinates and participates in securing on-going resources for programs providing direct services to families including medical and dental clinics recreation mentors volunteers food bank holiday giving etc.
  • Supports the after school and summer programming for at-risk and homeless students.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to identify students individual needs and provide appropriate referrals to support services such as counseling tutoring and healthcare.
  • Collaborate with community school coordinators and partners to plan and facilitate family engagement nights.
  • Work with students and families identified as a Case Manager to identify family needs and provide community wrap around services and referrals.
  • Communicate with parents through phone calls mailings flyers posters etc. to promote the program.
  • Actively participates in establishing reinforcing and sustaining Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) as the schools behavioral management system
  • Compiles analyzes and disaggregates various data to identify progress and gaps in addressing unmet student needs; shares data with administration Building Leadership Team District Parent and Family Engagement Supervisor & United Way.
  • Develops and maintains a current comprehensive list of community resources available to students and families
  • Organize and facilitate regular meetings and workshops to engage stakeholders including parents community members and school staff to gather input and build collaborative relationships.
  • Promote the community school model Four Pillar Framework and advocate for its benefits within the local community.
  • Monitor and submit MarketStar Student Resource Center orders for supplies and materials needed for the program.
  • Accepts assignments for special projects as needed at both a school and district level
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • An Associates Degree in Social Work or related fields is preferred
  • Three (3) years of related experience is required
  • Spanish speaking is preferred
  • Must be proficient in computer and technology systems specifically Google Suite and student information systems.
  • Experience in school settings working with children teens and families is preferred
  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) training and implementation experience is preferred
  • Experience in school settings and is preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • The job occasionally requires light physical exertion including walking standing motor vehicle operation and other forms of light physical activity.
  • Work is carried out in an agreeable environment as generally represented by normal office conditions.
