Communications Specialist, Policy Communications and External Affairs

Amazon seeks a self-motivated and high-judgment communications professional to join its U.S. Policy Communications and External Affairs team. This role will drive communications efforts in our data center regions across the US helping raise awareness among key media third-party partners and local policy stakeholders about Amazons policy priorities advocacy initiatives and positive impact on communities customers and industries.

The ideal candidate has strong media relations and strategic communications experience. They excel at translating complex technology concepts into clear compelling narratives and bring a background in supporting public policy initiatives. They will have a proven track record of working effectively internally across complex cross-functional teams and externally with policymakers and journalists. The right candidate has excellent writing skills experience driving proactive communications campaigns the ability to manage reactive communications and complex narratives as they arise and a history of utilizing good judgement in high pressure situations.

This position is based in Seattle WA or Arlington VA and will require periodic travel.




Key job responsibilities

Work closely with Amazons Infrastructure Public Policy and Economic Development teams to drive awareness of Amazons advocacy objectives and positive impact on customers industries and the communities where we operate
Develop communications plans written content and other communications assets in support of Amazons policy objectives
Support a broad range of external communications programs and events aligned with Amazons policy objectives
Establish and foster state local and regional media relationships by serving as a trusted source and educator about Amazon
Provide communications counsel to business leaders
Work cross-functionally to plan and execute Communications campaigns


- 5 years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelors degree
- Communications experience with public policy issues in technology industry or government

- Experience managing media relationships

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
