Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to support the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Washington DC. This is a hybrid role requiring 23 days per week onsite.
This role will support high-visibility communications efforts that enhance stakeholder engagement improve transparency and support enterprise-wide initiatives across CBP. The Senior Communications Specialist will lead the development and execution of strategic communications that translate complex information into clear actionable messaging for leadership and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and execution of strategic communications plans supporting CBP priorities and initiatives
Develop edit and deliver a wide range of communication products including executive briefings reports newsletters talking points presentations and digital content
Provide senior-level support for executive communications including speeches leadership messaging and high-visibility briefings
Support the integration of data visualization (e.g. Power BI dashboards) into communications to enhance decision-making and storytelling
Collaborate with program managers analysts and technical teams to translate complex program and operational data into clear narratives
Ensure consistency in branding tone and messaging across communication channels
Support internal communications to improve alignment knowledge sharing and operational transparency
Track and analyze communication effectiveness using metrics to inform continuous improvement
Support the development and refinement of communications processes frameworks and best practices
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
5 years of experience supporting Federal Government programs preferably within DHS or CBP
Bachelors degree in Communications Public Relations Marketing Journalism or a related field
8 years of professional communications experience with at least 4 years in a senior client-facing role
Experience supporting federal programs or large complex organizations
Strong experience developing executive-level communications and briefing materials
Exceptional writing editing and presentation skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences
Experience working with data-driven communications (e.g. dashboards reporting analytics integration)
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to operate effectively in a hybrid fast-paced federal environment
